Gertrude T. "Gert" Bednarek, age 91, of Elburn, passed away at her home surrounded by the constant care, love and prayers of her family, Tuesday, August 31, 2010.BORN: She was born March 16, 1919, in Hamilton Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Anthony and Mary (Potemski) Sobcynski. EARLY YEARS : Gertrude grew up in Hamilton, Ontario and attended local schools. She graduated high schoolEDUCATION: Attended school in Canada graduated HS MARRIAGE She was united in marriage to Chester Bednarek on February 2, 1940. RESIDENTIAL HISTORY: OCCUPATION / WORK HISTORY Gertrude was a loving mother and a wonderful homemaker but found many friends while working at the Sample Room in the Merchandise Mart. waitress all her life but loved SR work ethic second to none loved her was a mother figure gave of her self in a way that was uniquely hers sparkle in her eyes, loved to laugh and was in her element when meeting new people from downtown to Walmart no one ever forgot Gert, no matter how brief the encounter MEMBERSHIPS LIFE NOTES SURVIVORS She is survived by five daughters:Donna Marie (Edward) Becht of Oak Brook, IlShirley A. Karl Ganss, pastor of the church, will officiate with private family interment to follow at a later date. MEMORIAL A memorial has been established in her name to benefit Children’s Memorial Hospital.
