GERTRUDE Elizabeth HANSON,age 90 of Maple Park, IL, passed away at home after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, August 15, 2007. BORN / EARLY YEARSShe was born July 13, 1917, the daughter of John and Anna (Frieders) Diederich in Aurora, IL. EDUCATIONGertrude grew up in Aurora and attended St. Nicholas School and later Madonna High School. MARRIAGE & FAMILYLike many people of her generation, friendships and memories as well as relationships began on the dance floor of countless clubs throughout the area. It was at Long’s Barn where she found Carroll Hanson and a common love for dancing that would take them to their engagement at Willowbrook Ballroom to their marriage on October 23, 1943. They began their new life together in Warrenville before moving to her present home on a dairy farm in Virgil in 1950. OCCUPATION / WORK HISTORY Following her schooling she worked for ten years at Thor Pneumatic Tool where her father was a foreman. Although Gertrude began as a "city girl", she took to life on a farm with spring in her step and pride in her growing family. LIFE NOTES Gertrude made her house a home filled with love and the heavenly smells of her renowned cookies and cakes. No matter how hard the family worked during the week, the weekend brought a little bit of heaven on each side of that thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning. She and Carroll never missed a chance to go dancing on Saturday nights at many clubs including the local Moose, Tiger Club, Third Ward Club and Aragon Ballroom. Every Sunday morning Gertrude woke with a smile on her face and a song in her heart to share at S.S. Peter & Paul where she celebrated her faith for many years. MEMBERSHIPSGertrude was a faithful member of S.S. Peter & Paul Church and Kane Co. Farm Bureau. SURVIVORS She now leaves five children:Nita (Tom) Neu of Aurora,Helen (Mike) Moore of Morton, ILAnnie Hanson of Chicago andElaine (John) Jones of Cincinnati, OH, and One son, Ray Hanson of Maple Park;7 grandchildren:Chris Black, Kim Branstad, Karen Pirc,Paul Moore, Brian Moore, Sarah Miller and, Todd Miller; 14 great-grandchildren;Five sisters:Ruth Leenan of Reno, NV,Louise Burgholzer of Aurora, Roseann Nelson of Earlville, Betty (Bill) Helm of St. Charles and Doris (Arlo) Klock of Hampshire;Several nieces and nephews and a family of friends. PRECEDED In addition to her parents, and her husband Carroll (1988), she is preceded in death by her brother-in-law Frank Hanson, granddaughter Colleen Moore, one great-grandson, Matthew Branstad, two brothers, Al and Clarence Diederich, one sister Bernice Kuhn and one niece Lois Leenan.MEMORIAL In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Gertrude’s name to benefit several charities including S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, American Cancer Society and all those who helped her at DeKalb Hospice. Memorial checks may be made to the Gertrude Hanson Memorial and mailed in care of P.O. Friends may call on Saturday morning Aug 18, 2006 from 9:30-10:15 at S.S. Peter & Paul Church, Meredith Rd., Virgil, IL. A mass to celebrate her life will be held at 10:30 at the church.

Interment will follow the service at S.S. Peter & Paul Cemetery
