NAME Grant "Granski" A. Larsen, age 80, of Elburn passed away Thursday, April 22, 2004.BORN Grant was born June 24, 1923, the son Alden and Laura (Johnson) Larsen in Maple Park, IL. CHILDHOOD He grew up the Maple Park area and attended local schools graduating from Maple Park High School. Following graduation he continued his education for a time at Northern Illinois University, which at the time was called DeKalb Teacher’s College to obtain a degree as a veterinarian, before he enlisted in the United States Army on January 28, 1943. MARRIED In 1943 prior to his leaving for boot camp, Grant was united in marriage to Delores Larson. MILITARY He fought in central Europe and was honorably discharged November 5, 1945. Upon returning to civilian life he went to work as a farmer on several local farms until July of 1965 when Grant and Delores rebuilt Blackberry Inn. Grant ran the inn in such a way that everyone who stepped inside was immediately a new friend to be made and to be treated like family. In the late 1970’s Grant sold the Blackberry Inn to his son and daughter, David and Vicky Larsen. He then clerked farm sales for Almburg Auctioneering and also worked at what is now known as B.J.’s, for many years. MEMBERSHIP Grant was a proud member of the Elburn Lions Club and the Maple Park American Legion, post #312.LIFE NOTES Grant’s twenty year’s experience in farming grew in recent years into a love of gardening, though when he ventured outside his backyard, fishing trips to Canada with Wes Weston was his favorite pastime. Above all he was one of the all time Cub’s fans. No matter the season the next spring was the reason to hope that his Cubbies would finally make it.SURVIVORS Grant now leaves his son David Larsen of Aurora;One daughter Barbara Larsen of Sugar Grove;Three grandchildren: Denise (Chris) Keiner and their children Emily and Alison of Sycamore,Deanna Nagel of Fort Collins, CO,Dan Nagel of Chicago, IL,And unnumbered family and friends. PRECEDED Grant now joins his parents;His daughter Vicky Larsen;And one brother, Bob Larsen who preceded him in death.MEMORIALS In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name and mailed to P.O. Box 66, Elburn, IL 60119.

VISITATION Friends may call at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, Sunday, April 25, from 3-6:30 with a funeral service to celebrate his life to follow at 7 p.m. Rev. Katherine Lawes, pastor of the Community Congregational Church of Elburn will officiate.

Private family interment will follow on Monday.
