Harvey L. Christensen, age 87, of Aurora, IL, formerly of Maple Park, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, May 12, 2004, at Provena Mercy Center, Aurora. He was born September 8, 1916, in Maple Park, IL, the son of Howard LeRoy and Johanne Marie Petersen. Harvey was self-employed his entire life beginning with farming and continuing with a chicken hatchery, a retail appliance business and for many years he built homes which led him to attending Rockford Business School and earning his Realtor and Insurance Brokers licenses.Late in 1941, Harvey entered the U.S. Army where he was stationed at Fort Riley. On November 11, 1943, he was united in marriage to Genieva Green at Fort Riley, KS. Following the war, he and Genieva returned to make their home in Maple Park where they lived until 1963, when they moved to Aurora, IL Harvey opened a real estate and insurance office in Elburn and eventually went into real estate investment. He is survived by his wife, Genieva of Aurora, IL;five children: Charles (Mary) Christensen of Winfield, IL;Howard (Nancy) Christensen of Huntingdon, TN; Janet (Dave) Duggar of Carmel, IN; Julie (Kevin) Lewis of Roscoe, IL and Ronn (Melissa) Christensen, also of Aurora;Seven grandchildren:Dave (Angel) Duggar of Carmel, IN; Deena (Art) Farrell of Danville, VA, Jennifer (Jason) Law of Martin, TN, Kristin Lewis and Jeff Lewis, both of Roscoe, IL, Marissa and Todd Christensen, of Aurora, IL; Six great-grandchildren:Dakota, Dylan and Aspen Duggar; Janelle, Summer and Del Rae Farrell;One brother, LeRoy Christensen of Dixon, ILMany nieces and nephews and a host of friends he made along the way.He is preceded in death by his parents.He was a 67 year member of the Maple Park Masonic Lodge (now affiliated with the DeKalb Masonic Lodge #144), served three times as Master of the Maple Park Lodge, was a member of the Medina Shrine and a 32nd Degree Mason, as well as a Life Member in the Valley of Salina, Kansas Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, he also was a member of the Fox Valley Chapter of the Eastern Star. Harvey served as Mayor of Maple Park for a time, as well as a volunteer on the Maple Park Fire Department.Memorials in Harvey’s name may be made to the Shriners Crippled Children’s Hospital or the Cancer Research Center and may be sent in care of P.O. Visitation will be held from 4-6:30pm, Sunday afternoon, May 16, 2004, at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, IL, with a Masonic Service to be held at 6pm.His funeral service will be held at 11am, Monday, May 17, 2004, at Conley Funeral Home.

Interment will follow at Gardner Cemetery, Maple Park.
