Irene Dodd Sachen, age 91, of Jefferson City TN, formerly of Kanevile, IL, passed away at her daughter’s home in Jefferson City, TN on Monday, March 23, 2009. BORN: She was born February 22, 1918, the daughter of Fredrick and Chestie (Beck) Schleifer in Kaneville, IL.EARLY YEARS :Irene grew up in Kaneville and attended local schools while her parents owned and operated the Schleifer Grocery Store in town. 1st MARRIAGE In October, 1937 she was united in marriage to Lewis Dodd and they made their home in Elburn.Irene’s life changed drastically on May 29, 1962 when her husband Lewis Dodd died suddenly. Irene lived in Elburn for thirty-two years and worked for Furnas Electric for over twenty-five years before she retired in 1976.2nd MARRIAGEShe was lucky in love for a second time when she was united in marriage to Theodore Sachen on October 29, 1976 in Las Vegas, NV. They made their home in New Port Richie, FL where she found that many elderly people need some help and she was the one to do it. It gave Irene great satisfaction to be able to help others pay their bills, do their banking, housework and grocery shopping. While at home and much to her friends delight, Irene baked goodies to share whenever she would visit them. Following the death of their son-in-law, Ervin Rada, in 2003, Irene and Ted moved with their daughter, Marlene to Jefferson City, TN where they made their home near Marlene’s daughter and son-in-law, Faith and Mark Henrikson. One year later Ted’s health began to decline and Irene had to say goodbye to Ted for the last time on July 22, 2006. In 2004 Irene and Marlene moved to Jefferson City, TN where they have since made their home. MEMBERSHIPS Irene is a member of the Community Congregational Church of Elburn.LIFE NOTES: Irene’s number one love was her grandchildren. In second place was cooking. From baking to canning, cooking delicious meals and home grown, fresh-squeezed orange juice, Irene said "I love you" in dozens of delicious ways. SURVIVORS She is survived by her family: Marlene Rada of Jefferson City, TN,Lonna (Jerry) Schmidt of Elburn, ILSeven grandchildren: Faith (Mark) Henrikson of Jefferson City, TNGene Fink of Park Forest, ILJim (Beth) Schmidt of Cottage Grove, TNKevin Schmidt of Elburn, ILKelly (Matt) Durbala, also of ElburnJim Rada of Cottage Grove, TNShelly ( Ken) Coupe of Naperville, ILNine great Grandchildren. VISITATION / FUNERAL Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. with a funeral service to celebrate her life to follow at 12:30 p.m., Monday, March 30, 2009 at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, IL 60119. Interment will follow at Blackberry Township Cemetery, Elburn. The Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Dire, Pastor of the Community Congregational Church of Elburn, will officiate .MEMORIAL A memorial has been established in her name.
