Isabel "Isy" Mattison, age 76, of Elburn, IL, passed away early Monday morning, April 25, 2005, at Rush-Copley Medical Center, Aurora. Surrounded by her loving family and strengthened by her trustful faith, Isy claimed the Easter Promise of her Savior and finished her courageous battle with cancer. She was born February 14, 1929, in Aurora, IL, the daughter of Lewis and Alice (Skelly) Probst. She grew up on the farm in Sugar Grove where she attended local schools and graduated with the class of 1947. Following graduation, she worked at Western United Gas and Electric Co. for one year. Isy met LeRoy "Matty" Mattison during their freshman year at Sugar Grove High School. A romance that began when they were teenagers would grow to be a love story that would continue for over fifty years. They were united in marriage on January 15, 1949, at Holy Angels Church, Aurora and began farming on Isy’s family farm on By-pass 30. They were blessed with a son and a daughter, Larry and Linda. Isy loved the life on the farm and took pride in her home and her yard. She was a wonderful cook who thought nothing of preparing huge meals to feed the men who came to help with the harvest or fill the silos. She loved a clean house, especially the sparkle of newly washed windows. Her hands were never idle.In 1972, Matty changed professions and he and Isy changed their whole lifestyle when they designed their dream home and moved to town. Built to their specifications, their home in Elburn not only reflected their taste but was a warm oasis for family and friends. While Matty worked at the bank, Isy worked downtown at the Northern FS Store. She loved talking with folks and just like her house, Isy worked at keeping a "clean" store. On February 20, 1991, she retired from the store and enjoyed more time at home. She and Matty spent their vacation time in Florida for many years. Then after both of them retired, they wintered at the Countryside Golf and Country Club in Naples. Their house on the lake became their second home where they both enjoyed golf, and being with their many friends.Isy and Matty shared the priceless treasure of a love story that never grew old. Isy leaves for her family memories of delicious cookies and pies; a spotless house and a heart that was kind and devoted to her family. Just four months ago, Isy was blessed with the birth of a great- granddaughter, Hailey and though Isy couldn’t stay to watch her grow, Hailey will always have a "special" angel watching over her from heaven.Since 1972, Isy has been a devoted member of St. Gall Church, Elburn and was also a member at the Countryside Golf and Country Club since 1986. Isy is survived by two children, Larry (Cindy) Mattison and Linda (Dan) Halbesma, all of Yorkville, IL; four grandchildren: Brian (Bonny) Mattison , Tina (Jason) Erickson andTiffany Mattison, all of Yorkville; and Drew (Sarah) Halbesma of East Troy, WI; her great-granddaughter, Hailey Erickson; one brother, Robert (Kay) Probst of Elburn, ILone nephew, Mike (Melodee) Probst of Elburn, IL; one niece, Ginny (Dean) Jones of San Jose, CA, several great-grand nieces and nephews and a community of friends both in Illinois and in Florida. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Matty; one sister, Helena Emma Probst in infancy and one nephew, Ronald Probst.Memorials in her name may be made to the St. Gall Church Building Fund or the and the Dreyer Community Health Fund, Cancer.
