NAME/ AGE James "Jim" L. Baston, age 62, of Elburn, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2004 at his home surrounded by the love of his family. Jim spent the last few years of his life fighting with an indomitable spirit the cancer that would eventually take his life. His legacy of strength and determination will be remembered by all who knew him. BORN Jim was born September 26, 1941 the son of Del and Peggy (Patterson) Baston in Indianapolis, IN. CHILDHOOD Jim’s father made his living as a design engineer and as such followed his profession wherever it led him throughout Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. Jim finished his education at Clyde High School in Ohio where he graduated with the class of 1959. Following graduation, Jim enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in October of 1963. He returned to civilian life and attended the Automation Institute in Chicago where he began his career in Information Systems. MARRIED Jim was united in marriage to Karen J. Schedin in Argo Congregational Church on June 3, 1967. They began their new life together in DeKalb for a time before eventually moving to Oak Park, IL in June of 1969. Ten years later with a growing family in tow, Jim and Karen moved to Elburn where they have since made their home. LIFE NOTES Jim was an avid fisherman who enjoyed taking trips to Northern Minnesota, Wisconsin with only walleye on his mind. He also enjoyed being at his second home in Lodi, WI spending time with friends and neighbors. Jim enjoyed reading and had a special place on his shelf for Tom Clancy novels. However, the most cherished time he spent was with his special friends and family. SURVIVORS He leaves his loving wife and two sons, Jim (Stephanie) Baston of Somonauk, IL and Derek Baston of Elburn;His father Delbert Baston of Muncie, IN;One grandson, Tyler Baston of Somonauk, ILOne brother David (Sally) Baston of Cedarburg, WI;One sister Shirley (Mike) Baston of Muncie, IN;One brother-in-law, Mark McPherson of Mt. Prospect, IL;One sister-in-law, Carol Schedin of DeKalb, IL;Several nieces and nephews and a family of special friends. PRECEDED He joins now his mother Peggy and his sister Cynthia L. VISITATION Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, August 14, at the Community Congregational Church, Elburn. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 1 p.m. with Rev. Katherine Lawes, pastor of the church, officiating

Private family interment will take place following cremation.
