Jeane D. Hagerty, age 88, of St. Charles, IL, formerly of La Fox, passed away quietly into the arms of her Savior at home surrounded by the love and prayers of her family, Saturday, November 21, 2015.
She was born May 29, 1927 the daughter of Stanley and Mildred (Jacobson) Swinehamer.
Jeane grew up in La Fox, IL, and attended local schools. She graduated from Geneva High School with the class of 1945. Before accepting her diploma, Jeane played in the marching band, 4-H, and still had time to catch the eye of a certain James “Jim” Hagerty.
Jeane furthered her education at University of Illinois in Champaign but returned home to work for the Kane County Farm Bureau.
Later she worked at the Kane County Probate Clerks Office for the next many years until her retirement in 1964.:
Jeane caught more than the eye of Jim Hagerty before her high school years were through, she had caught his heart as well. But they would have to wait until “Uncle Sam” had finished with Jim until they could be together. Jim faithfully served his country from June of 1945 until November of 1946. He returned, not only to civilian life, but to his high school sweetheart as well. Their courtship continued until they were united in marriage on April 25, 1953.
They began their new life together in St. Charles in home they built, filling it love and laughter and a son and daughter to boot. Paul Hagerty was welcomed home in 1964 and the family became complete with Anne’s birth in 1967. Soon after, they moved a short ways to their present home.
Jeane was a long time member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in St. Charles, IL, where she was Treasurer for the Sunday School, the Assistant Treasurer for the church and enjoyed attending weekly bible study. Jeane also was a contributing author to the History of La Fox.
While Jeane worked for many years, home was where her heart was. She made each house a home, with personal touches that were all her own, but kept a firm hand when it came to helping with the family business, Jim Hagerty Door Service. Jeane loved her family with everything she had, and was famous for playing on the floor with her grandchildren, even into the last years. As much as she loved her family, she always made room for animals in her heart and home. They were attracted to her warmth and compassion, and she loved them in return, especially her cat Spook and their bird, Birdo. Her hands were kept busy by playing the piano, doing crosswords or playing Sudoku. Jeane was a loving wife, wonderful mother and doting grandmother who will never be forgotten.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Jim Hagerty; two children: Paul Hagerty and Ann (Troy) Tousana; six grandchildren: Doug (Nicole) Hagerty, Derek (Amanda) Hagerty, Troy Jr., Amber, Trevor and Trent Tousana; Five great-grandchildren: Cody Millhouse, Faith and Levi Hagerty and Chase and Morgan Hagerty; and a close family of friends. :
She is preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Mildred Swinehamer.
