NAME JEANETTE "JAN" EMILY COX age 82, of Geneva, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Holy Cross Hospital in Chicago.BORN: She was born February 28, 1928 in Chicago IL where she attended local schools.EDUCATION: Following high school she attended nursing school and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing from Presbyterian School of Nursing, now called Rush Presbyterian, in 1949.MARRIAGE: Jan met her future husband Ray Cox working at the Illinois Research Hospital while he studied at the University of Illinois. They were united in marriage on June 8, 1951. They made their home in Chicago for a time welcoming two children, Louise and Mark, before moving to Batavia where they would raise their growing family in the country. The family became complete with the arrival of their second daughter Lori. RESIDENTIAL HISTORY: In the early seventies, the family moved to their home in Geneva where Jan continued to work for Community Hospital later retiring as the school nurse for Geneva High School. Ray worked for Aurora Pump and later A.I.D. When Ray passed away in 2005, Jan continued to live in their family home until her son came to live with her in recent years. MEMBERSHIPS: Jan was a member of the National Education Association as well as a member of the Rush Presbyterian Alumni Association and Fox Valley Hospice. LIFE NOTES: Jan and Ray were both volunteers for Fox Valley Hospice and spent many hours in the service of others. Their faith was strong as they worshipped together with their "church family" at Fox Valley Presbyterian Church in Geneva. After retirement they enjoyed traveling to Europe, Hawaii and cruises to tropical locations where the sky was always blue and the sun was always shining. Jan’s heart was fullest when she was at home in her garden planting and tending the flowerbeds which brought forth the most beautiful bouquets in the neighborhood. SURVIVORS: She now leaves three children:Louise R. Cox of Dayton, NV, Mark S. Cox of Geneva, IL and Lori B. (Arthur Mercer) Cox of Dayton, NV;One brother, Glenn (JoAnn) Lane of Auburndale, FL;Two nephews:David Cox of Philadelphia, PA and Douglas Cox of Miami, FL;Four cousins: Robert (Dorothy) Novak of Palos Heights, IL, Janet Novak, Debbie (Robert) Gilman and Cheryl Novak and a family of friends. PRECEDED:She now joins her parents, husband Ray and two brother-in-laws, Richard and Robert Cox who preceded her in death. VISITATION / FUNERAL Visitation will be from 10-10:45 a.m., with a funeral service to celebrate her life to begin at 11 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2010 at the Fox Valley Presbyterian Church, Geneva. Rev. Melinda Hinners, pastor of the church will officiate and interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Geneva. MEMORIAL A memorial has been established in her name to benefit Fox Valley Hospice, Fox Valley Presbyterian Church and the Humane Society. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Geneva.
