John Charles Justice, age 75, of Elburn, passed away unexpectedly in the late evening of Thursday, March 7, 2019, surrounded by the love and prayers of his family.
John was born on October 14, 1943, in Woodstock, IL, to proud parents M. John and M. Hazel (Sheehan) Justice.
While attending high school in Woodstock, John raised beef cattle to make his way to college, and worked his summers on the road construction crew with his dad. The apple did not fall too far from the tree, as John was a hard worker just like his parents.
In his spare time, John had a lifelong love affair with cars. Some of the cars he had worked on, but most importantly John got to drive them. The roads were his to conquer.
After all his hard work, John attended the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL, and graduated in June of 1966 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
Right after graduation, John went back to working hard and started at Barber-Greene in Aurora, IL, as a mechanical engineer. John worked at Barber-Greene for 18 years before going to work for Safety-Kleen in Elgin, IL, where he worked for 20 years and was granted three patents. In the months to come, John found a job with NORMAC in Geneva, IL, and was there for ten years before he finally decided to retire.
One day on the train ride home from college, John set his sights on Carolyn Uhlir. He had known her since high school, but never realized just how gorgeous she was. John and Carolyn set out on the tracks of life and dated for a couple years before they united in marriage on September 30, 1967. They moved to Geneva, IL, after marrying and started their family. John and Carolyn were blessed with four children before moving to Elburn, IL, to make room for their triplets in June of 1976. Their family was complete seven years later with the birth of their last daughter. They built their family home from the ground up, and have lived there ever since.
John was a member of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers throughout his engineering career.
John was an avid reader, and he often read a book in an evening. Not only did he read stories, but he also had the gift of gab and told many stories. If you gave John an opportunity to speak, he most certainly would have started a conversation with you.
Along with working on some cars and driving them, John also loved to attend car shows. He tried to go to every show he could, and was often joined by his kids and grandchildren. His favorite car was the 1972 forest green Chevy pick-up truck which he inherited from his father. He taught his oldest grandson, Alex, how to drive, and they went on road trips together to explore and share new experiences.
John was always very engaged and involved in his own children’s lives, and when they had children of their own, he only had more experiences to teach. His kids and grandchildren affectionately called him “Pops”. Every game, concert, or anything his kids or grandchildren were a part of, Pops was there to be their biggest fan. John was a serious family man where he always just took the time to care for anyone that needed him. He will be noticeably missed, but never forgotten.
John is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Carolyn Justice; his five children: Julie (Nancy) Justice-Marshall, triplets Michael (Fabiola) Justice, Kathleen (Torey) Quinn, Jill Justice, and Susan (Donna Iraci) Justice; nine grandchildren: Rebecca, Alejandro “Alex”, Emiliano, Connor, Sofia, Camila, twins Mateo and Valentina, and Emily; his two nephews, David and Scott, and his niece, Adeel; as well as many friends, old and new.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Hazel Justice, and his sister, Joan Khaja.
A public visitation will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2019, from 9-10:30 a.m., at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, IL 60119, with no services to follow. Private family services and burial will be held at a later time.
