John R. Walton, age 88 of Elburn died Monday, September 26, 2016 at the BRIA of Geneva Nursing Home in Geneva.
John was born in Chicago on August 30, 1928 to Frances (Kennedy) and George Walton. He went to Chicago grammar schools and Morgan Park Military Academy High School. After graduation John felt the calling to serve his country and enlisted in the US Army where he served in Occupation of Japan. John was honorably discharged and took college classes for two years. Following college, John worked on a farm until 1957 where he started working as an ironworker he joined the Ironworkers Union in 1960. He worked for the union until his retirement in 1993.
John married Ruth Hanson on July 26, 1969. He belonged to the Elburn American Legion and the Lions Club.
John enjoyed his step family of Donald (Margie) Hanson, Darryl Hanson, Denise (Barry) Klewin, grandchildren; Joel (Jennifer) Hanson, Wade (Sarah) Hanson, Tracy (Rod) Feece, Keith (Tammy) Williams, Aaron (Andrea) Williams, great grandchildren; Abby Hanson, Brock and Brady Feece, Brandon Hanson, Hope, Hanna, and Harper Williams, Katherine Williams, two nephews; Bill and Daniel, and two nieces; Pam and Karen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; Ruth, two brothers Bill and Francis, and one grandson Jay Hanson.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a private service will take place at a later date.
