JOSEPH L. "JOE" DAVIS, age 85, of Maple Park, passed away surrounded by the love and prayers of his family on August 3, 2010. BORN: He was born May 10, 1925, in Walpole, IL, the son of Oman and Clara (McChesney) Davis. EARLY YEARS:Joe grew up in Walpole and attended local schools. He graduated from high school in 1943 and worked various local jobs in the oil fields, drove truck, and delivered eggs for a time. MARRIAGE: Joe found the love of his life, Wilma Nations, who worked for the telephone company. Love knows no age and theirs was timeless as they were married on September 20, 1947. RESIDENTIAL HISTORY: They made their home in Walpole for a time until they moved north of St. Charles, IL, where Joe found work at Burgess Norton located in Geneva, IL. During this time their family was growing and they would eventually welcome home four children. OCCUPATION / WORK HISTORY:In addition to Burgess Norton, Joe scraped and painted local barns to perfection and helped to pay for his favorite "habit", horses. Joe broke horses alongside his father when he was a boy but also rehabilitated horses as well. When Joe’s children were young, he bought a huge mare, "Crier", from Texas and taught all his children to ride. Many horses passed through his care, as well as the care of his children. Memories abound when reminiscing about the many horse shows that garnered ribbons and trophies galore, including one state champion. MEMBERSHIPS: Joe was a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association. SURVIVORS: He is survived his wife Wilma, Four children:Glen "Joe" Davis of Big Rock, IL, Wanda "Gayle" Boyle of Oswego, IL, Daphne (Bill) Doane of Davis Junction, IL and Debbie (John) Harling of Maple Park, IL;Twelve Grandchildren:Lindsay (Sam) Fong, Shane (Theresa) Davis, Price Davis, Corina Boyle,Steven(Callie) Boyle,Nikki Doane, Robert Doane, William M. Doane, Jarred Doane, Suzeahn (Travis) Hunt,Deidra Harling and Colt Harling;Thirteen great-grandchildren:Charlotte Davis, Lanie Davis, Angel Boyle,Cheyann Boyle,Cade Doane, Annie Swanson, Taylor Doane, Jacob Doane, Hannah Doane, Dylan Hunt, Danielle Hunt, Morgan Harling, Miranda HarlingSeveral nieces, nephews , a special caregiver Yani and a family of friends. PRECEDED:He is preceded in death by his parents and twelve siblings. VISITATION / FUNERAL Visitation will be from 3-5:30 p.m., Saturday, August 7, 2010 at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, IL 60119. A funeral to celebrate his life will follow visitation at 6 p.m. Interment will follow at a later date in Walpole, IL. MEMORIAL In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Joe’s name to benefit his favorite charities including Alzheimer’s Research.
