JOSEPHINE P. MATHEWSAge 89, of Sugar Grove, IL passed away peacefully at her home, Thursday afternoon, December 23, 2004.BORN: She was born March 25, 1915 in Locksburg, Arkansas the daughter of Harvey and Gertrude (Blackstock) Jones. EARLY YEARS :When she was a child, the family moved to Idabel, OK, where her family farmed and Josephine attended local schools. MARRIAGE On December 27, 1938 she was united in marriage to Jess W. Mathews in Idabel, where they began their family. In 1950 they moved to Warrenville, IL where they lived until 1963 when they moved to the present family home in Sugar Grove. For several years in the early seventies, Josephine worked in the food service department at Fermi Lab, Batavia.MEMBERSHIPS / LIFE NOTESAlthough she was never a "joiner" Josephine was active for many years in the Easter Star in Wheaton, IL. Josephine loved to garden and was famous for her cucumber relish. Flowers and vegetables all grew beautifully in her care as did children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her love flowed from her fingers in the form of baby clothes, afghans, and many other keepsake items that are cherished by her family and friends. SURVIVORS She is survived by Four children: Retha Jean (Fred) Borgfeldt of Pewaukee, WI, Mary Ann (Spencer) Rees of Sugar Grove, IL Jess W. (Kathy) Mathews of Puyallup, WA Robert (Susan) Mathews of Sugar Grove, ILOne sister, Opal Barnes from Oakland, CA;8 grandchildren Scott (Pat) Borgfeldt of Dallas, TXSheryl (Michael) Burns-Raasch of Pewaukee, WIKellie (Jim) Walsh of Sugar Grove, ILTraci (Rich) Fahlmark of Yorkville, ILBrent (Tina) Mathews and Clint (Jennifer) Matthews, both of Puyallup, WABrandon Mathews and Erin Mathews of Sugar Grove, IL13 great grandchildren andNumerous nieces and nephews.PRECEDED She is preceded in death by her husband, Jess, her parents Harvey and Gertrude and, two sisters Irene McCowan and Pearl McCowan. FUNERAL Memorial services will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2004, 1:30pm at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, Sugar Grove, IL. The Rev. Steve Good will officiate. MEMORIAL In lieu of flowers, memorials in her memory may be made to the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church building fund and mailed to the church at P.O. Box 226, Sugar Grove, IL.
