Leo E. (Edward -don’t print) BerringerAge 85 of Maple Park, IL, died unexpectedly Friday afternoon, November 18, 2005 at Delnor Community Hospital due to an aneurysm. BORN:He was born October 11, 1920, in Batavia, IL, the son of Peter and Helen (White) Berringer. When Leo was small, his family moved several times but later came to Maple Park where Leo played on the Maple Park basket ball team and graduated from high school with the class of 1939. MARRIAGE It was war time when Leo met Rita Sauber at a party held for friends who would be going into the service. Leo came home with the prize that night and on November 23, 1944, he and Rita were married at S.S. Peter & Paul Church in Virgil. RESIDENTIAL HISTORY: They made their home in Sycamore on a farm. There was no heat in the house that first night and it was so cold that even the two newlyweds couldn’t get warm. In 1952 they moved to Maple Park to Broad Acres Farm near Beith and County Line Roads. They dairy farmed there until 1989, then raised cattle until 1992 when they stopped farming but continued to live at Broad Acres Farm until 1996 when they moved to the present family home. MEMBERSHIPS He was a member of the Church of St. Mary, Maple Park, and through his farming years, Leo was a delegate for AMPI, (Associated Milk Producers Incorporated) and served on their national board. He also served on the board of the Kane County ASCS (Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Services) board and was a member of the DeKalb County Farm Bureau. LIFE NOTES Leo was a man of his word and always on time. He had an uncanny ability to do mathematical calculations in his head. From bowling scores to farming figures, Leo was always first with the answer. He had a broad smile, a big laugh and a sense of humor to match. Pierce St., Elburn, IL and at St. Mary’s Church, Wednesday morning from 9:30-10:15am prior to mass. His funeral mass will follow at 10:30am with the Rev. Monsignor William Claussen officiating. Interment will conclude at S.S. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Virgil, IL. MEMORIAL A memorial has been established in Leo’s name. Checks may be made to the Leo Berringer Memorial and mailed in care of P.O.
