Lloyd L. Luther, age 79 of Cortland passed away Monday, July 11, 2016 at the DeKalb County Nursing Home in DeKalb.
Lloyd was born Monday, November 30, 1936 in Millington, IL the son of Martin Tubbs and Ruby Mabel (Johnson) Luther.
When Lloyd was just 16 years old he heard the calling to serve his country and joined the US Navy and was sent to the Mediterranean.
He married the love of his life Muriel Lorraine Snedeker on June 14, 1968 in Sandwich, IL. They just celebrated their 48th anniversary.
Lloyd and Muriel started their life living in Sandwich, IL, they then moved to Big Rock, and finally settled in Cortland, IL.
He worked at Allsteel Manufacturing before owning and operating Union 76 gas station in Plano, IL. Lloyd worked at Dukane Equipment, he finally settled and retired from Smith and Richardson Manufacturing in Geneva.
Lloyd enjoyed traveling to the Mississippi River in Albany, IL to fish. Without question he loved reading and watching old westerns, and watching his favorite Chicago sports teams, the Chicago Cubs and Bulls.
He leaves behind his loving wife; Muriel, one daughter; Amy (Charles Heyob) Davies, 2 step-sons, Tim (Becky) Michael, Tom (Connie Pfieffer) Michael, and numerous grandchildren and step-grandchildren and one sister Janet Blue.
Lloyd now joins his parents and one sister Nancy.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 4:00-7:30PM, Monday, July 18, 2016 at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce Street, Elburn, IL 60119. A time of sharing will follow at 7:30 PM at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established in Lloyd’s name to benefit: Checks may be made to the “Lloyd Luther Memorial” and mailed in care of P.O. Box 66, Elburn, 60119. Tributes may also be forwarded to the same address or on the web at www.conleycare.com.
