Lucille Von Ohlen, age 92, of Elburn, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2016.
She was born September 12, 1924, in Aurora, IL, the daughter of Joseph and Anna Duy.
Lucille grew up Aurora on East Avenue and attended local schools. She graduated from East Aurora High School.
Lucille lost her heart to Wendall “Burt” Von Ohlen and they were united in marriage on April 18, 1964 at the First Methodist Church of West Chicago. They began their new life in Aurora before moving to a house they built in Elburn. In no time, they made that house their home and filled it will memories, love and laughter.
Lucille worked for her brothers shoe business, Duy Shoes, for a time and also for what was once the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad. She later worked again for her brothers but never really retired.
She was a faithful member of the Hinckley First United Methodist Church.
Lucille was the ultimate entertainer as her cabinets would attest. Her house was her kingdom and the kitchen was her castle. Her home was decked out with careful loving details, including a nautically themed basement. She was famous for her homemade salad dressing and apple crisp made from her own apple tree. They owned an adjacent lot which was dedicated solely to their garden. The fruits of their labor were shared with family and friends and filled their pantry with both fresh vittles as well as jars of goodness. When the calendar rolled around to December, you would always find Lucille hard at work making the most beautiful ornaments that will be treasured for generations. A multi-talented woman, Lucille also played the piano, although the organ in the basement continued to be a mystery to her, or so she claimed. Dancing With The Stars and Wheel of Fortune kept her entertained when she had time to put her feet up. Lucille was a loving woman with a kind soul but an unmistakable stubborn streak that lasted even into her last days. Now free of her earthly chains, she is reunited with her loving husband Burt.
She is survived by her brother, Ralph Duy as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna; her husband Burt; four brothers: Adam (Alice) Duy, Joseph (Olja) Dewey, Albert Duy and Walter (Eleanor) Dewey; two sisters: Helen (John) Hausler and Jeanette (Fred) Gernand and one sister-in-law, Jean Duy.
