MIRIAM S. OLSONAge 97, of Maple Park, IL, passed away peacefully, Sunday evening, December 19, 2004 at the Dekalb County Rehabilitation Center, DeKalb, where she had been a resident for a number of years. Truly "Home for Christmas", Miriam celebrates the birth of her Savior at "His House" this year, surrounded by family and friends who have long awaited her homecoming. BORNShe was born January 27, 1907 in Steele, North Dakota, the daughter of Henry and Myrta (Hunt) Smith. EDUCATIONFollowing graduation from Steel High School, Miriam earned her teaching certificate at Northern Illinois University. She began her teaching career south of Kanevillein the country school at Dauberman and Lasher roads.MARRIEDMiriam left teaching to become a bride. She was united in marriage to Albeon Olson on June 2, 1932. They farmed in the Kaneland area until 1958 when they moved to Maple Park and Miriam returned to her first love – teaching. Miriam taught third grade in Maple Park for some fourteen years and substituted throughout the Kaneland system as well. In 1983, Miriam retired from teaching and moved to Barb City Manor, DeKalb where she took part in many activities. MEMBERSHIP / LIFE NOTESMiriam was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church. Maple Park and was always involved in helping others. She loved to write poems for special occasions and there was always a place for others at the Olson kitchen table. SURVIVORSShe is survived by one son, John A. (Anna Mae) Olson andOne daughter, Margaret A. (Eugene C.) Johnson, both of Maple Park, IL Five grandchildren Kevin (Jane) Olson of Bloomington, ILAnd their children: Katie and AmyKurt Olson of Scottsdale, AZ.Kenneth (Janet) Olson and their children Ryan and Jacob of Sycamore, Il.Julie (Eric) Gullstrand and their children Ryan and Jakob of Sycamore, Il.Michael (Dara) Johnson and their children Micah and Noah, of Maple ParkSeveral nieces and nephews.In addition, Miriam leaves scores of former students and faculty in the Kaneland Schools and a community of friends who will long remember the life and love she shared with them.PRECEDEDShe joins now here husband, Albeon, one sister Myrtle Willyard and one brother Clarance Smith who proceded her in death.MEMORIALSMemorials to celebrate her life and serve others, may be made in her name and mailed in care of P.O. box 66, Elburn, IL, 60119

Friends may call at visitation hours, Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 from 10 to 11am at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, IL Funeral Services will follow at 11:00am at the funeral home. The Pastor Daniel Benson of the Grace United Methodist Church will officiate.

Interment will follow at Kaneville Cemetery, Kaneville, IL.
