Martha was born on February 9, 1931, in Geneva, IL, to proud parents Fred and Edith Johansen. She grew up on the family dairy farm, Elburn Modern Dairy in Elburn IL.
Paul and Martha met at Geneva Lutheran Church while she was organist and later wed on June 5, 1954. Paul and Martha made their home in Elburn until 1962 when they purchased the family home in Geneva.
Martha worked as a bookkeeper at the State Bank of Geneva and later as a bookkeeper at Houghton Mifflin Company in Geneva, IL until her retirement.
Paul and Martha were long time members of Geneva Lutheran Church where Martha was the organist and pianist while Paul was the director of the choir for over 25 years. Martha was also a member of the local American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) as well as the Woman of the Moose in St. Charles.
Martha always enjoyed going to the Michigan Upper Peninsula every year for a family vacation and over the years has taken many trips with friends from the area. She was a caregiver to many and had a heart of gold. Martha always enjoyed going for a boat ride and sitting up front where it was quiet with a bit of wind. If you walked by the house, you would probably hear Martha playing the piano and singing along.
