NAME Martin "Marty" N. Koehring, age 74, of Sandwich, formerly of West Chicago, passed away at Willowcrest Nursing Home in Sandwich on Wednesday, February 08, 2006. BORN: He was born January 27, 1932 the son George and Carrie Koehring in Elgin. EARLY YEARS : Marty grew up in Elgin and attended local schools. Hearing the call of his country, Marty enlisted in the Army in 1949 and was stationed in Korea. Through his time there he proved is bravery time and time again and brought home not only a Purple Heart but 21 pieces of shrapnel. Upon returning to civilian life he returned to his parents home in Elgin. MARRIAGE Marty was united in marriage to Patricia Payton in 1953 and continued to make their home in West Chicago. Later he began his 40 year career in the Carpenters Union Local # 916, thirty- nine of which he spent at McKee Door in Aurora. MEMBERSHIPS He was a member of the Batavia VFW as well as the commander of the Geneva VFW for several years. LIFE NOTES Marty loved his family and friends, but enjoyed especially the time he spent with his grandchildren. With his years as a carpenter, Marty was the one to call when there was a house to be built or a repair to be made. He also loved to go to the Sycamore Speedway and shooting pool and trips to Las Vegas. Marty was known for his sense of humor and the jokes he shared. SURVIVORS He now leaves four children:Jim (Julie) Koehring of West Chicago,Tim (Karen) Koehring of West Chicago,Gary (Janet) Koehring of Kaneville, IL,And Theresa (Earl) Hughes of Hinckley, IL;Nine grandchildren;Two sisters;His former wife Patricia (Lloyd) Hanson of Sheridan, IL,And a family of friends. PRECEDED He now joins his parents, three brothers and one sister who preceded him in death.

VISITATION Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, on Friday, February 10, 2006. FUNERAL A service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:30 a.m., with a time of visitation from 9-10 a.m., at Conley Funeral Home, on Saturday, February 11, 2006.

Interment will follow at Kaneville Cemetery, Kaneville, IL.
