MARY MARIE SOHAN, age 84, of Maple Park, formerly of Sugar Grove, passed away at her home, surrounded by her family, Saturday, October 12, 2013.She was born October 13, 1928 in Aurora, IL, the daughter of Morris J. and Helen M. (Martin) Gordon.Mary grew up on the "family farm" in Sugar Grove and attended local schools both in Sugar Grove and in Aurora. Mary was united in marriage to Edwin M. Stanton III, with whom she had three children, Edwin M, Michael G. and Nancy A. In 1973, Mary was introduced to Edwin J. "Ed" Sohan by a mutual friend. On July 14, 1974, Mary and Ed were united in marriage. Not only did their hearts become one, so did their two families as Ed’s daughter Nancy L. made them a family of six. They made their home on the farm in Maple Park.Mary worked at Rorry’s, a dress shop at West Plaza, in Aurora, for many years, many of which as the manager. Later, she worked part time at Sosin’s, another dress shop, this time in Sycamore, until Edwin’s passing in 1999.Mary was a member and past secretary for Ohio Grove Grange, #1842. She was also a faithful member of the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church in Sugar Grove, where she was a bible school teacher and member of the Women’s Auxiliary, for many years. Mary’s life was full of family and fun. She took turns leading troops of Cub and Boy Scouts as well as Brownies and Girl Scouts. She loved to sew clothes and crotchet for family and friends. Her garden was always bright and beautiful, full of tasty vegetables and vibrant flowers. She always had enough love in her heart for anyone and everyone, including those "best friends" who walked on four paws. Her pets became family the instant she laid eyes on them. She will forever be missed and never be forgotten. She is survived by four children:Edwin M. (Marion) Stanton of Darlington, WIMike (Vickie) Stanton of Sycamore, ILNancy L. (Debbie) Gordon of Wasco, ILMany nieces, nephews, cousins and a countryside of friends;She is preceded in death by her husband Edwin, her parents, Morris J. and Helen M. Gordon, and two siblings, Donald J. Gordon and Helen G. Ogle. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 16, 2013, from 4-8 p.m., at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, IL 60119. A funeral to celebrate her life and faith will begin at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 17, also at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Sugar Grove Cemetery, Merrill Rd., Sugar Grove, IL.
