MAURICE "Maurie" E. POTTERAge 87 of LaFox, IL, passed away peacefully at sunrise, Easter morning, March 27, 2005. He had recently been admitted to Delnor Community Hospital, Geneva. BORN / EARLY YEARS :He was born July 26, 1917 in LaFox, IL the son of Harold A. and Norma B. (Bowgren) Potter. As a boy, Maurie began working at the family’s historic general store, founded in LaFox by his great grandfather in 1863. Following graduation from Geneva High School he continued at the store, where he later became Post Master in 1963. In 1960, he built a cottage in Coloma, WI on Pleasant Lake and enjoyed many week-ends there among friends who became his Wisconsin family. Maurie was a card-carrying, bona fide Die Hard Cubs Fan and a familiar face at Spring Training in Tempe, AZ. He was also a huge University of Illinois fan.He was a member of the First Congregational Church, Geneva, IL, the National Association of Retired Post Masters, the Geneva Boys Club and a founding member of the famed "LaFox Lawn & Garden Club". Although he arguably hold his ground on anything with anyone, any time, Maurie had a softer side that was very fond of his family and friends whom he cared for deeply. When it came to good times, Maurie was at his best on a cruise. He sailed from sea to sea on over twenty-seven cruises with the Holland American Line. SURVIVORS He is survived by One sister Lucille Landberg, of Geneva, ILSeveral nieces and nephews and their families:Lynn Landberg,Keith (Arlene) Landberg andKirk ( Lynn) Landberg all Geneva, IL, Rodney (Pat) Hawthorne, Pottstown, PAPamela Hawthorne of Horsham, PACynthia Hawthorne of Oaks, PA,9 great nieces and nephews.In addition he leaves his dear caregivers, Willie and Evangeline and a family of good friends. PRECEDED He is preceded in death by his parents, And one sisteMEMORIAL A memorial in his name has been established to benefit the First Congregational Church of Geneva. VISITATION / FUNERAL Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 29, from 3-6pm with services to follow immediately at 6:30pm at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn.

Committal services will conclude Wednesday morning at 9am at Garfield Cemetery, Campton, Twp.
