MIKE "Whitey" PROCTOR, age 60, of Sturgeon Bay WI, previously of Elburn, passed from this life to eternal life on Thursday May 30, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Green Bay WI, after a brief illness. He was born January 23, 1953, the son of Fred and Alice (Anderson) Proctor in Geneva, IL . Mike grew up playing with the neighborhood kids on Kansas Street, playing baseball every day in empty lots around town. He attended Kaneland High School where he loved all things sports; excelling as the quarterback in football and burning up the basketball court. Mike earned the nickname "Whitey" with the blond hair & blue eyes of his Swedish heritage. He was Mr. Social and was crowned homecoming king and prom court his senior year 1971. After graduation, Mike attended Waubonsee College for a short time before pursuing his life’s passion, building homes. His concrete company and construction business FMP, flourished through many economic ups and downs for over thirty years. Most recently Mike managed his portfolio of apartments and townhomes in both Illinois and Wisconsin allowing him to maintain friends at both homes.Mike met his best friend and love of his life Janet Shelton in 1984. Their two hearts became one when they were united in marriage in Lake Tahoe in 1987. They were partners in every way, loving life and enjoying every day. They ran businesses together and traveled frequently, enjoying cruises to the Mediterranean, East and West Caribbean. Mike’s favorite place on earth was Sturgeon Bay, WI. He took Janet during their dating years to a favorite cabin, later appropriately named by a friend, "The Love Shack." Through the years Mike and Janet built themselves many houses, but their dream home, "Love Shack III" with breathtaking views of the Bay, was most beloved. They often welcomed friends and family to enjoy the beauty of Door County.Mike was a favorite uncle to two nieces and three nephews, sharing many fun experiences through the years. His soft side showed in his affection for Persian kitties as well; Sonny, Quarters, Penny, Goldie, Silver and Bronze all shared a special place in Mike’s heart. He also was a "Vet Guy", owning a variety of cool cars through the years, along with always having a boat to be able to cruise the waters of Sturgeon Bay. Looking for fun in all seasons, Mike and Janet enjoyed fishing and snowmobiling. Mike’s view of paradise includes the Richard Siebin’s cabin in Canada where he made at least one annual pilgrimage with his fishing buddies and brother Tom; even including Janet one year so she could experience rustic life without plumbing. He loved the beaches of Key West FL and the tall pines of Hackensack MN equally. He made friends wherever he went, always introducing himself with a big smile, hearty handshake and "I’m Whitey Proctor." He could connect people and places, almost always making a link with a total stranger to someone or someplace he knew. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Janet.
