Nancy C. Hain, age 81 of St. Charles, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Inspirations Assisted Living Facility in St. Charles.
Nancy was born on Thursday, February 6, 1936 in Chicago, the daughter of Raymond Dewey and Martha Frances (Farley) Mains, Sr.
She grew up in Hinsdale, IL. Her father was the sales and marketing director for Fruehauf Trailer Corporation and was asked to move his family to different parts of the country. They lived for a brief time in Grosse Pointe, MI, where Nancy had fond memories enjoying life with her family. In her pre-teens, the family moved back to Hinsdale to plant their roots.
In 1952 while attending Hinsdale High School, Nancy met the soon to be love of her life, Mr. Ronald Charles Hain. After graduation she attended Principia College where she graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts in 1958. As a graduation gift, she married Ron on August 23, 1958 in Hinsdale.
After college she put her fine arts degree to work. Nancy’s husband was drafted into the military where they were stationed in Kansas and then Alaska. Nancy worked for the Bureau of Land Management in Alaska helping them with the graphing of the then new state. Nancy had their first child in 1962, having being called to be a mother, she became a homemaker. While raising their first three children, she supported Ron in his accounting business by doing the bookkeeping. After their fourth child entered elementary school, Nancy felt the calling to become a teacher. In 1981 Nancy began teaching at the Mansio Mens Montessori School in Geneva. Nancy proudly retired in 1998.
Nancy was a member of the Principia College Women’s Student Council, served as president at Garfield Cemetery and was very active at First Church of Christ, Scientist in Elmhurst and in Geneva.
All her life Nancy enjoyed reading historical fiction, books of spirituality and religion and of course her Bible. She also had a green thumb, having a garden of both vegetables and flowers. When she was attending Principia College she studied abroad in London and Paris. This began a love of traveling. She traveled to Australia, Italy, the Holy Land and Hawaii. Nancy loved horses and horseback riding and was very proud of her membership in the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution). Most of all Nancy adored spending time with her family, especially her seven grandchildren. She was a very talented artist and enjoyed making the family’s Christmas cards. Most recently she was very proud of her son Ron, Jr., as he is currently running for Kane County Sheriff. Nancy wanted to be there with them. but we know she will be with them in spirit through the campaign.
She leaves behind her four children: Elizabeth (Michael) Richards, Judy (John) Van Bogaert, Timothy Hain, Ron (Amy) Hain, Jr.; seven grandchildren: Bryan, Tom and Ally Van Bogaert, Christian and Joey Hain, Mason and Ashlyn Hain; one brother: Raymond D. Mains, Jr., and much loved extended family and friends.
Nancy now joins her parents: Raymond and Martha, and her husband: Ronald, Sr.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 1:00-2:00pm, Sunday, September 10, 2017 at First Church of Christ, Scientist in Geneva with a celebration of life beginning at 2:00pm.
