Date of Death

July 12, 2021

Norma Jean Kellar, age 90, of Lombard, passed away into the arms of her Savior, Monday, July 12, 2021.She was born June 4, 1931, in Corbin, KY, to proud parents, George and Retha (Wilson) Petrey.Norma grew up in Corbin and attended local schools. In her teen years, the family moved to Illinois and settled Forest Park, IL. Later she was blessed with two children who were the light of her life. Norma dedicated her life to her children, and it was only later that she took a factory job. No job was too tough and nary a detail was missed both at work and at home thanks to her deep dedication and iron work ethic.

Norma had a wily side and could keep a secret better than if you used Fort Knox. She was steadfast in her beliefs and was rarely shy about sharing them. Her chili dogs and fudge were the best and she never said no to sweets of any kind, especially banana splits. Norma never attended any event or dinner empty handed. You could usually expect that she was showing up with a dessert. Pound for pound, she was best bowler you could find. Norma had a close family of friends and was always the first to lend a hand. She was a survivor and a force to be reckoned with; Norma could overcome absolutely anything. No matter her age, Norma cut a mean rug on the dance floor and never went anywhere slow.  She may have become a “grandma” but she never drove like one (though her record was as spotless as the interior of her car). After the birth of Makenna, her first great grandchild, she lovingly became known as GG (great-grandma) to all. She adored and was adored by her great-grandchildren never missing an opportunity to attend a dance recital, soccer game, birthday party, or any other opportunity to spend time with them. GG will be forever missed and never forgotten.

She is survived by her son, Greg (Judy) Kellar; 3 grandchildren: Eric (Heather) Chizzo, Amanda (Mike) Wigder, Megan (Kyle) Garafolo; 5 great-grandchildren: Makenna, Jake, Josh, Ally and Ryan; son-in-law, David Chizzo; her niece Susan Scott; and 2 great nephews: Dan and Nick Weiberg.

She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Retha Petrey, her daughter Tania Chizzo, two siblings: Alma Mills and Harold Petrey, and two nephews: Wayne and Ellis Mills.
