Date of Death

Nov 10,2016

Patricia “Pat” Freeland, age 87, of DeKalb, formerly of Elburn and St. Charles, IL, passed away quietly into the arms of her Savior, Thursday, November 10, 2016, at the DeKalb County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she had made her home in recent years.
She was born May 13, 1929, in Elgin, IL, the daughter of Raymond and Winifred (Meigan) Stewart.
Pat grew up in Elgin and attended local schools, later graduating from high school.
Pat worked at the Elgin Watch Factory for a time, as well as Kane County Bank and Trust. Later she worked at what is now Richardson Electronics and retired following her tenure at Moosheart. Retirement didn’t really take, so Pat began working part-time at Little Traveler in Geneva and volunteered at Delnor Hospital, also in Geneva.
Pat loved to dance in her younger years, and it was on the dance floor she met the man she would marry. Harry Freeland Jr. not only swept her off her feet, but stole Pat’s heart as well. They were united in marriage on June 19, 1948.
They began their new life together in Elgin for a time before moving to Elburn in late 1961. Harry passed away in 1985 and a year later, Pat moved to St. Charles and made twenty more years of memories before moving to Heritage Woods in DeKalb in 2006. Most recently, declining health brought her into the care of the DeKalb County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Pat was a member of the Quivera Club for many years. Several of those same members would meet for a lively game of Pinochle. Pat was also a past member of St. Gall Catholic Church in Elburn.
Pat loved to read anything she could get her hands on, but the twinkle in her eye when she spoke about John Wayne was unmistakable. Genealogy was a passion of Pat’s and she chased down past generations with abandon, traveling to Ireland, Scotland and England but their yearly family trip to Hackensack, MN, was greatly anticipated.
She is survived by four children: Cathy (Mike) Kussro, Barb (Steve) Wettengel, Robert (Susan) Freeland and William (Linda) Freeland; Eleven grandchildren: Trisha, Kellie, Kristin, Shane, Andy, Lindsay, Trevor, Christina, Linzey, Anthony and Robert; ten great-grandchildren: Noelle, Addy, Jaelyn, Hayley, Maddie, Charlie, Aubrey, Jaxson, Eleanor and Miriam; many nieces, nephews and a countryside of friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Winifred Stewart, her husband Harry and one brother Richard Stewart.

In lieu flowers, a memorial has been established in Pat’s name to benefit her favorite charities. Checks may be made to the “Patricia Freeland Memorial” and mailed in care of P.O. Box 66, Elburn, 60119. Tributes may also be forwarded to the same address, on the Conley Funeral Home Facebook Page or on the web at www.conleycare.com where you can find her full life story.
