PHYLLIS YODER, age 83, of Sugar Grove, passed away at her home, Thursday, July 15, 2010. Surrounded by the love and prayers of her family she passed from life into Eternity and was at last reunited with her husband Joseph who passed away in 2001.BORN: Phyllis was born April 24, 1927 in Topeka, KS, to Ruth Randles. Ruth’s family chose to give Phyllis to Alexander and Ethel (Woodward) Chabot to raise as their own when Phyllis was only a few months old. EARLY YEARS:Phyllis grew up in Canada for time and lost her mother Ethel at age seven. Unable to care for his daughter, Alexander placed her in boarding house in Chicago. When Phyllis was fifteen she lost her father as well but continued to make her home in Chicago, becoming a part of the boarding house "family". MARRIAGE: Phyllis met the man she would marry during high school years. True love knows no age and will overcome any obstacle, even WWII, as Phyllis and Joseph Yoder were united in marriage on November 6, 1948. RESIDENTIAL HISTORY: They began their new life together in Chicago until 1967 when they moved to their present home in Sugar Grove. OCCUPATION / WORK HISTORY:Although Phyllis worked as a switchboard operator when she was young, she also worked as a secretary for Mercy Hospital and local doctors offices. It was the time spent raising her children that Phyllis considered her "full time job" and many wonderful memories were made in the house that she made a home. LIFE NOTES: Phyllis had a kind and generous spirit who made many friends over the years. The bonds made between them were strong, some lasting over fifty years. She also possessed an inner strength which helped her navigate the many life changes she encountered, especially her fight with cancer. She was always an animal lover and when the children were growing up, Phyllis was proud to have her home as the "neighborhood hang-out" complete with home cooked food and treats compliments of the "neighborhood mom". SURVIVORS: She is survived by two children:Sue (Ron) Simek of New Lenox, IL and Bill (Karen) Yoder of Big Rock, IL;Five grandchildren:Melissa Simek, Michelle Simek, Michael Simek, David Yoder, Megan Yoder,Her special caregiver Mei who was her constant companion and friend during her last days.PRECEDED:She is preceded in death by her mother and adoptive parents and her husband Joseph.VISITATION / FUNERAL Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn. There will be a funeral service to celebrate her life to begin at 8 p.m. A prayer service will also be held Wednesday morning, July 21 at 10 a.m. at Conley Funeral Home. Private family burial will occur following cremation. MEMORIAL In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name to benefit her favorite charities. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn. There will be a funeral service to celebrate her life to begin at 8 p.m. A prayer service will also be held Wednesday morning, July 21 at 10 a.m. at Conley Funeral Home.

Private family burial will occur following cremation.
