Richard Moffitt, 60, of Kaneville passed away peacefully Monday, December 22, 2014. He went to spend Christmas with his mom and dad up in heaven.Richard was born on May, 3, 1954 in Geneva, IL to proud parents Everett and Debbie Moffitt. Richard grew up in Kaneville and attended local schools, graduating from Kaneland High School with the class of 1972. As a kid Richard loved going on ice fishing and hunting trips with his dad and brother Tom. Richard loved music, he played the drums, while his brother played the trumpet and his sister played the saxophone. He was a young entrepreneur, starting a lawn mowing business with his siblings cutting grass all over Kaneville. Richard met Stephanie Richardson while working at Electro-vend in the early 1970’s. Their eyes met and they quickly fell in love. Their two hearts became one when they were united in marriage on August 17, 1974. They started their family with his stepson Tyrone together in Montgomery, IL. They were blessed with another son, Kevin while in Montgomery. The family moved to Aurora, and were blessed with a daughter Michelle. From Aurora they moved to Kaneville and made their home on Harter road for the rest of his years. Richard loved the open road so he became a truck driver. He started at Precision Woodworking in Elburn, then moved on to Parenti and Raffaelli delivering woodworking for over 15 years. His last job was at Hintzsche delivering fertilizer. He was fond of all the people he worked with over the years. Richard was a great driver, he could fit his truck in the smallest of spots, whether in Elburn or Chicago. Richard was a devoted member of the Kaneville United Methodist Church in Kaneville. Richard and Stephanie loved the outdoors, they enjoyed going on long bike rides through the countryside. He had a green thumb, one garden was not enough, he had to have two. He was an expert at growing vegetables, mainly corn, potatoes and green peppers. Anything that could be eaten, Richard could make it grow. He was a big fan of cars, his ‘69 Chevy Camaro RS with an SS package, and his ‘72 Heavy Chevy Chevelle were his two favorite cars. The most important thing in Richard’s life was his family. He loved doting on his 4 grandchildren. He always had the grandkids out helping him mow the lawn and take care of the gardening. He showed the kids how to fix their bikes and how to plant trees.
