RICHARD "Rick" ROMBOUGHAge 55 of Maple Park, IL, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2008 at Delnor Community Hospital, Geneva where he was taken Saturday following a ruptured brain aneurysm. Stricken without warning, Rick died doing one of the things he loved best, tinkering with his car. BORN / EARLY YEARSHe was born in Sycamore, IL on February 18, 1953, the son of George E. and Alice Josephine "Jo" (Bell) Rombough, Jr. Rick grew up in Maple Park and graduated from Kaneland High School with the class of 1971. After High School, he began working at Turner Brass in Sycamore and through the years, worked a variety of jobs throughout the area, including Countryside Pools, and the Sale Barn, both in Maple Park, Mac Tools of Cortland and currently, Car Quest Auto Parts in Sycamore. Always ready to lend a hand, his fingerprints could be found on a lot of projects from antique tractors to the Olson brother’s monster truck, "Orange Crush". A White Sox fan all the way, Rick loved nothing better than bantering with his Cub-fan friends. Softball was his game, however, and legend was his name among DeKalb-Sycamore teams. At bat, he was renowned for his ability to place the ball in any field and, on a signature triple, call a time-out at second to bring in a pinch runner. It was, in fact, at a ball game that his future sister and brother-in-law introduced him to his future bride in the summer of 1989. A slightly shy Kathy Wig, caught Rick’s heart at that game and a year later they were wed on January 25, 1991. They made their home in Maple Park in the same house that had been home to Rick from the day he was born. Rick loved Kathy deeply and though their personalities were opposites, it was those very "opposites" that forever attracted their hearts to each other. The ever upbeat, ready to give a "ribbing" Rick, had a tender side that shown itself both at home and with family members as he cared for his aging parents and later, his mother-in-law. The reflective Rick enjoyed fishing and loved spending time with his nieces and nephews, talking things over while waiting for the "big one" to bite.
