Dr. Robert "Bob" Hansen, D.D.S., of Elburn, formerly of Chicago, passed away after a long difficult battle with cancer on Thursday, October 2, 2014, surrounded by the love and prayers of his family. If love could have saved him, he never would have left. He was born to Jack and Mary Hansen on the northside of Chicago , IL on August 16, 1952. He attended Our Lady of the Angels Elementary school along with his older sister Cathy. Later, he was an honor roll student at Weber High School where he was on the bowling team and band. Bob excelled in math and physics and pursued an engineering degree at Northwestern University in Evanston , IL . During his 3rd year in undergrad, he decided to apply for Dental school. In 1977, he graduated Northwestern University Dental School . Bob was a 22 year old dentist! Bob was first introduced to Kathy in 1975 on a blind date. I guess you could say it was love at first sight because one year later they were married. In 1981 they welcomed their first daughter, Brette. The young family of three settled down in Elburn , IL . By this time, Bob was the proud owner of two dental practices. Every summer was spent visiting his parents in Peshtigo , WI . Music was a huge part of Bob’s life. He spent weekends during dental school playing guitar in his beloved group. Bob made lifelong friendships throughout his years in the band. Some of his all time favorite memories were singing and playing with his best friends. On October 2, 2014, Bob sadly lost his battle with retroperitoneal liposarcoma after a long nineteen months. He died peacefully with Brette and Kathy by his side after 3 days in hospice. He smiled till the end, a true testament that he genuinely loved his family and life. Bob will always be remembered for his gentle nature and kind heart. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society by visiting http://donate.cancer.org/index
