NAME Robert "Bob" Walz, age 77, of Aurora, formerly of Elburn, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at Provena Mercy Center Hospital, Aurora following complications from diabetes. BORN: He was born September 2, 1931, the son of Harry and Elsie (Szebler) Walz in Aurora, IL. EARLY YEARS :Bob grew up on the south side of Aurora and graduated in 1949 from Marmion Military Academy. MARRIAGE On June 2, 1973 Bob was united in marriage to Kathy Skow. They began their new life together by building a home in the Stillmeadows Subdivision just outside of Elburn, IL. In 2008, they celebrated 35 years of a wonderful life together. OCCUPATION / WORK HISTORY Kathy met Bob while both were working at Barber-Greene Company. Bob eventually retired after 26 years of service in 1985. Although officially retired from Barber-Greene, Bob wasn’t ready to stop working. He then worked for Furnas Electric in West Chicago before retiring once more and for the last time in 1994.MEMBERSHIPS Bob enjoyed membership in many associations including the Phoenix Club, Tiger Club, Barber-Greene Quarter Century Club and the EAA. In earlier years, both Bob and Kathy were active in the Grace Lutheran Church in Lily Lake. Later, when they downsized their home and moved to the Lora Lei Acres of Maywood in Aurora, they became active in St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. LIFE NOTES Bob’s first priority and love in life was his family, but coming in a close second were golf and airplanes. He fulfilled his greatest dream when he actually took over the controls of a rebuilt B-17 Aluminum Overcast Bomber owned by the Experimental Aviation Association. SURVIVORS He now leaves his loving wife Kathy;One son Keith (Jennifer) Walz,One sister, Doris (George) Snyder, Brother-in-law Jerry (Jo Ann) Skow;One niece Jane Burns;Three nephews:John (Amette) Snyder, Joe (Sandy) Snyder and Jason Skow;One very special cousin-in-law, Johnny Skow and a family of friends. PRECEDED He now joins his parents, mother-in-law and father-in-law, his niece Julie Snyder and nephew Joel Skow, who preceded him in death. VISITATION / FUNERAL Visitation will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. with a funeral to celebrate his life to follow at 11a.m., Monday, January 12th, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 27 S. Edgelawn Dr., Aurora. Rev. Mindy and Rev. Pat, pastors of the church will officiate and interment will follow at Sugar Grove Cemetery. MEMORIAL In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name to benefit the American Diabetes Association, Shriners Hospitals For Children and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
