Roger Bartlett, 82, of Elburn passed away peacefully at home Sunday December 7, 2014, surrounded by the love and prayers of his family. Roger was born in Joliet, Illinois to proud parents Clarence and Myrtle Bartlett. Roger grew up in Kenosha, Wisconsin and attended local schools. He graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School in Kenosha. After high school Roger joined the National Guard and was then called up to fight for his country on behalf of the US Army in the Korean War. Roger was married to Dorothy Kloep before entering the service. Roger and Dorothy were blessed with two beautiful boys John and Matthew. In 1971 Roger moved the family from Kenosha to Glen Ellyn. Roger was a tool and die maker by trade but he was skilled enough that he became a self taught manufacturing engineer. Roger went on to lend his engineering skills to numerous companies in the Chicago area for many years. His final working years were for IMAS selling machine tools. Roger was lucky in love a second time when he met June McDaniel in 1999. They met through work, fell in love and were married on June 11, 1999 in Geneva, IL. He was an active member of Congregational Churches in Kenosha and Glen Ellyn for many years, a long-time member of the NRA. Roger was also active for many years volunteering his time for the Boy Scouts of America. Roger was a people person, he loved to get to know anyone who liked to share a story. Roger was a true outdoorsman. One of his favorite pastimes was bird watching. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, focusing his sights mainly on pheasants. Roger and June liked to go for walks where they could see all of the animals that were out and about, he loved nature and all that it provided. Roger and June weren’t able to travel as much as they would have liked but they did take a couple of very nice trips to Busch Gardens in Florida and a big trip to Honolulu, Hawaii. Roger’s family was the most important thing to him, he especially adored his grandchildren. He is gone from this Earth but will never be forgotten.Roger is survived by his wife June of 15 years. His sons John (Sylvia), Matthew (Patricia), 2 grandchildren Carolyn, John Jr. 3 stepchildren , 6 stepgrandchildren, and a countyside of friends.Roger is preceded in death by his parents Clarence Bartlett and Myrtle Prange, brother Richard Bartlett and sister Beverly Szantor.A visitation will be held at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce, Elburn, IL on Friday, December 12, 2014 from 3-5 pm with a memorial service to follow at 5pm. The service will be officiated by Reverend Bennett McNeal of the Community Congregational Church of Elburn. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Roger’s name to benefit The Salvation Army. Checks may be made to the "Salvation Army and mailed in care of P.O. Box 66, Elburn, 60119.
