Date of Death

October 4, 2021

Russell J. Perry, age 94, of St. Charles, IL, formerly of Cedar Falls, IA, passed away quietly into the arms of his Savior, finding everlasting peace on the morning of Monday, October 4, 2021.

He was born August 14, 1927, in Northwood, IA, to loving parents, Russell L. and Barbara (Weik) Perry.

Russell grew up in Northwood, IA, and attended local schools. He graduated with a diploma, (and a reputation for mischief) from Northwood High School in 1945.  Following graduation, he answered the call of his country and enlisted in the United States Navy. He faithfully served his country as a Corpsman, 3rd class until his honorable discharge on August 9, 1948.

Russell found the love of his life in the halls of his high school where Virginia Pixley caught his eye and stole his heart. Although she may not have kept him on the right side of the rules during high school, their mutual paths brought them to the altar on October 28, 1945.

Russell returned to civilian life after the Navy, and to a beautiful wife, in Mason City, IA, where he continued his education. After graduation, Russell found employment at several local banks starting in Hubbard, IA.  The now growing family moved to Aplington, IA, before settling in Hampton, IA. Eventually they made a home in Dike, IA, where he was part owner and president of the Iowa Savings Bank. After his retirement in 1993, he continued to serve on various boards of directors.

Russell was a recognized and celebrated member of the AMVET Organization.

Russell and Virginia did not travel often but they did indulge in his passion for golf at Maddens Golf Resort in Brainerd, Minnesota. The accuracy of his scores may or may not have been shadowed in doubt, but his love for the game brought him back time and time again. Russell dedicated his life to his family, especially his wife Virginia. Later in life, Russell’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren became the apple of his eye, and he celebrated each, and every time they could gather. He will forever be loved and missed, but never forgotten.

He now leaves two sons, Roger J. (Barbara) Perry and Wayne Perry; four grandchildren: Mike (Patti) Adams, Becca (Sarah) Conley, Margaret (Kris) Lindskog, and Byron (Katey) Perry; 11 great-grandchildren: Shawn Gibford, Jonathan Gibford, Maddy Lindskog, Grace Volkmar, Lily Lindskog, Addie Volkmar, Max Lindskog, Conner Perry, Olivia Torres, Kennedy Cope and Abraham Cope; two great-great granddaughters: Charlotte “Charlie” Gibford and Elliana “Elli” Gibford; many nieces, nephews and a family of friends.

He is now reunited with his wife Virginia, his parents, Russell J. and Barbara Perry and one brother Dean (Marcy) Perry.
