Salvatore “Sal” Cholewa, age 65, of Elburn, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, April 28, 2020.
He was born January 20, 1955, in Oak Park, IL, to loving parents Julius Cholewa and Mary Pusateri.
Sal grew up in Maywood, IL, where he attended local schools. He graduated from Proviso East High School.
Sal was blessed with three children, Holly, Joseph and Amy, before finding a lifelong love in Julia Alsup. They made a home full of laughter and love for over 30 years.
Sal held many jobs over the years including machine operator, inventory control, and others. The title he held didn’t matter much to Sal, he met each day of work “head on” and didn’t quit until the job was done.
Sal loved all sports, and cheered the loudest for his beloved White Sox and Green Bay Packers. Sal was a child at heart, and he gave of his friendship freely. His laugh and joyous spirit was contagious; everyone wanted to be around Sal. He built an outdoor bar in his backyard as a gathering place for all his friends and family to share a laugh, a drink and a story or two. Nothing took the place of his all-important naps though he was known to say that “Naps will take a lot out of ya.” Sal was one of a kind, and everyone knew it. He will be missed by all.
He is survived by the love of his life, Julia; three children: Holly (Gregg) Zicha, Joseph (Gina) Cholewa and Amy Cholewa; four grandchildren: Riley, Grace, Emma and Mackenzie; one brother Walter (Olga) Cholewa; a sister Helen (Mario) Natalizio; a sister-in-law, Lynn Cholewa; many nieces, nephews and a family of friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Julius Cholewa and Mary Pusateri; a brother Joseph Cholewa;
A memorial service will be held at a later date once all the family and friends may gather.
