Shirley E. Duncan, age79, of Batavia, IL, formerly of St. Charles, passed away suddenly Friday, October 5, 2007 at Delnor Community Hospital, Geneva.She was born November 17, 1927 in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Henry G. and Daisy M. (Gwen) Gerling. She grew up in Belton, MO where she attended local schools. Following graduation from Belton High School she went on to attend college in Gulfport, MS.Shirley’s family were making their home in Harlingen Texas when Shirley met Warren Duncan, her younger brother’s high school teacher. Warren and Shirley were united in marriage on December 23, 1949 in Kansas City MO.For a short time they lived in Kansas City, MO and then moved to Summit, NJ where their first daughter, Karen Ann, was born on May 3, 1953. After a few years, they returned to Texas and made their home in Houston where their youngest daughter, Terri Elaine, was born on May 22, 1955. In 1960, the family moved to St. Louis, MO where they made their home until 1967, when they came to live in Downers Grove, IL. Warren and Shirley made their home in St. Charles for a number of years and became residents at The Holmstad, Batavia in 2002.Shirley was a busy homemaker who still found time to go antiquing and express her artistic side through sewing and painting. She was active with the P.T.A. and her girls’ school activities. After Warren retired in 1981, they traveled extensively from craft show to craft show where they marketed their handiwork. Among the items they created were needlework and wooden crafts; country folk art. It gave them the opportunity to meet countless others who shared their love of crafting. Those years were some of the best of their lives. She is survived by her daughter, Terri (Allen) Jingst of Lily Lake, IL; her son-in-law, Carl Tunestam of Dodgeville, WI and two grandchildren: David and Lauren Jingst, also of Lily Lake.She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Warren; her daughter, Karen Tunestam and her brother, Hank Gerling
