Susan Mathews, age 64, of Sugar Grove, passed away surrounded by the love and prayers of her family in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Presence Mercy Center Hospital, Aurora, IL.

She was born April 23, 1952, in Burlington, WI, the daughter of Charles and Betty (Allen) Chojnacki.

Susan spent most of her younger years in Prairie du Chien, WI and attended local schools. She graduated with the class of 1970 Prairie du Chien High School. While a student, Susan was proud flag bearer for her school and twirled with the best of them on game day and in parades.

Susan attended school at Weaver Airlines in Missouri for a time but came back to Chicago and worked at Kramer Dental. The profession, of which she was most proud, was that of homemaker. A more dedicated and loving mother you will never find. Later, when the children were older, she worked as a administrative assistant for various companies, most recently, Arrow Plumbing.

Susan met Robert Mathews through a mutual acquaintance. She used to say, “You meet the nicest people riding on a Honda.”and she was right! It wasn’t long before a friendship turned into something more. Susan and Robert were united in marriage on July 31, 1982 in the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church. They made their home in Montgomery for a time before moving back to Sugar Grove where they raised two children and made 34 years of unforgettable memories.

Susan was a member of the Women’s Auxilliary and a faithful member of the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. Susan also supported Kaneland through volunteering for the Kaneland Booster Club.

Susan loved to bowl and gamble. She knocked down ten pins on a winter league for many years and also took a few trips to national tournaments. Susan also like to play the penny slots at the casino, especially on the yearly trips with her mom, sister and eventually sister-in-law, to Las Vegas, beginning in October 2005. The “girls week out” became tradition and the memories made…often stayed at Vegas. Her greatest times were spent with her children. Anything that they did, she was there without hesitation. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and various sporting events where she was without a doubt, their biggest fan. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart and she reveled in being the resident babysitter. Susan was also known to the cut the rug a time or two, making a name for herself as she and Robert line-danced into the night, but nothing came in between her and her beloved Green Bay Packers.

She is survived by her mother, Betty Chojnacki; her loving husband of 34 years, Robert Mathews; two children: Brandon (Terri) Mathews and their children Josephine and Charles and Erin (Stephen) Hill and their son Kolton; one brother, Greg (Judy) Chojnacki; a sister Carol (Joe) Hill; many nieces and nephews and family of friends.

She is preceded in death by her father, Charles Chojnacki.
