Theodore "Ted" E. Sachen, Age 92, of Jefferson City, TN, passed away Saturday morning, July 22, 2006 at Jefferson City Rehabilitation Center, Jefferson City, TN after a long battle with declining health.BORN / EARLY YEARSHe was born July 3, 1914 in Chicago, IL, the son of John and Marie (Schomer) Sachen. Ted attended St. Mary and St. Theresa Catholic Schools in Aurora, IL and "graduated early" to the "University of Real Life", and helped his parents earn a living for their family. EMPLOYMENTFor many years Ted was a crane operator at Lyon Metal, Aurora, but "after-hours" he farmed in near Big Rock, IL. As a private pilot, he enjoyed flying out of nearby Aurora Airport for friends and business associates. Ted was a very handy man who could fix anything from cars to home appliances. When he traded his cars, dealers were stunned to see an engine that was as shiny as the hood. As a farmer, he raised corn and soybeans for many years. After retiring, his love of planting and growing crops continued as he nurtured orange and grapefruit trees. Never content to sit idle, the farmer in Ted became a grounds keeper in Florida as he hand-mowed dozens of lawns and trimmed hedges for neighbors and friends. MARRIAGE & FAMILYOn October 29, 1976, he was united in marriage to Irene (Schleifer) Dodd in Las Vegas,NV.They soon settled in New Port Richey, FL where they made their home for thirty-one years until 2005. Following the death of their son-in-law, Ervin Rada, Ted and Irene moved with their daughter, Marlene to Jefferson City, TN where they made their home near Marlene’s daughter and son-in-law, Faith and Mark Henrickson. Visitation will be held Friday morning, July 28, 2006 from 10 am -11 am at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11am at the funeral home. The Rev. David Bateman will officiate.
Interment will follow at Blackberry Cemetery, Elburn, IL.
