Theresa O. Campbell

NAME THERESA O. CAMPBELL, age 92, of Maple Park, IL, passed away Sunday evening, September 20, 2009 at the DeKalb County Nursing Center where she has resided since 2007. BORN: She was born April 21, 1917 the daughter of Peter and Mary (Bergthal) Oesterreicher in Chicago, IL. EARLY YEARS:Theresa grew up in Chicago and attended local schools. She graduated with the class of 1935 and afterward went to work at Sloan Valve Company as a bookkeeper.MARRIAGE: She met her husband in the shipping department, where Burdette kept making "mistakes" just so that Theresa would come back to see him. Theresa caught on quickly and although she thought he was a "sly fox", a friendship turned into love. Though the war intervened in 1943, the love between the farm boy and the city girl never wavered. They were married on October 18, 1947 in Chicago, at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church.RESIDENTIAL HISTORY: They began their life together on the Hughes Farm on Rt. 38 in Maple Park. In 1956 they moved into town and had since made Maple Park their home. OCCUPATION / WORK HISTORY:In the late 1950’s, Theresa began working for the First State Bank of Maple Park. Later in 1966, she worked at the Wurlitzer Piano Factory in DeKalb before her retirement in the mid 1970’s. MEMBERSHIPS: She was a faithful member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Maple Park. LIFE NOTES: Theresa’s father ran a music store for many years as she was growing up and as a result, Theresa learned to play many instruments. In addition to piano and organ, Theresa played the violin in the high school orchestra. As the years went by, she would continue to play only the piano and organ. She would later become an organist for St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Maple Park for over thirty years. After her retirement, Theresa began oil painting which later led her to paint picturesque scenes that became keepsakes for family and friends. Her creative nature also was seen through the many afghans and doilies she crocheted. Theresa also loved to travel and made many family camping trips across the country and into Canada. She and Burdette also made one -of- a- kind memories on vacations to Europe and later on annual trips to spring training in Sarasota, FL to support Burdette’s favorite team, the Chicago White Sox. Over the years, Theresa made special places in her heart and home for her dachshunds, Tina, Holly and Heidi. SURVIVORS: She now leaves two sons:Dave (Rita) Campbell of Maple Park, IL and Ed (Marilyn) Campbell also of Maple Park;Six grandchildren:Shawn (Julie) Campbell and their children, Christian and Aaron, of Webster City, IA, Sheri (George) Baumann and their children, Christina, George, and Elizabeth, of Hinckley, IL, Sarah (Chris) McGreer and their son Aiden, of Cortland, IL, Kate Campbell of Maple Park, IL, Kelly (Brian) Eigenberger of Dubuque, IA, and Steve Campbell of Maple Park, IL;One brother-in-law, Jack Turk of Hampshire, Several nieces, nephews, cousins and a family of friends. PRECEDED:She now joins her parents, husband Burdette, two brothers, Frank and Claude Oesterreicher and one sister, Catherine Demski who preceded her in death. VISITATION / FUNERAL Visitation will be on Friday, September 25, 2009 from 4-8 p.m., with a 4:30 p.m. wake service, at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, IL. A mass to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, September 26 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Maple Park. Fr. Joachim Tyrtania, pastor of the church, will officiate and interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
