OLEDENE REDEMANN, age 93, of Maple Park, IL, passed away in sweet surrender to her Lord and Savior at Pine Acres Care Center in DeKalb, Friday, July 26, 2013. After a long hard fought battle, her soul is now at rest. Oledene was born October 21, 1919 in Genoa City, Wisconsin, the daughter of George and Martha Gifford. She grew up in Genoa City where she attended local schools. After graduating, Oledene pursued her dream of becoming a beautician and went to Beauty School. She often told the story of how her father, George, would take her to Lake Geneva to catch the Greyhound bus to get to school. Once there, she would spend the remainder of the week before returning home. After completing Beauty School, Oledene opened her own beauty shop back home. One afternoon Oledene was brought out of her shop to see if she could help a young farmer, who had been out in the fields all day, wash his hair. On that day Oledene did what no one else could, she won his heart. In November 1948 they were married. Oledene and Harry lived in Genoa City on a farm Harry worked on before moving to another near Lake Geneva. In 1951 they began their family and together welcomed their son Kurt into their lives. After Kurt was born the family moved to Glenview where they spent the next 13 years. In 1964, they moved to Maple Park and a place they would call for the years to come. Even though Oledene enjoyed working at the beauty shop, she loved caring for her family even more. In 1951 she gave up her shop and decided to stay home and focus on taking care of her family. In her later years she was a school bus driver for Kaneland and worked for Auto-Meter until her retirement. Oledene was a devoted member at Grace Lutheran Church of Lily Lake where she participated in the Home Circle, Rebecca Circle, Bible School, and was well known in the kitchen. She was always one of the first to volunteer her time to help with luncheons. The children at church adored Oledene, and she would light up each time she saw them. Oledene was masterful at making and selling handmade rag rugs to benefit her church. She loved to go to domino games, not necessarily to play, but to socialize with friends and share a laugh or two.
