Paul E. Wdowicki age 83, of Elburn, Illinois died peacefully on March 30, 2016 surrounded his loving family.
Paul, born July 5, 1932, grew up in Chicago and moved with his family to Morton Grove in 1941. Paul graduated from Niles High School in 1950 and began his career as a carpenter. In 1952 he met Patricia Murphy and they were married on January 16, 1954. Paul was drafted into the army shortly thereafter and served for 2 years. Paul then started his own business Paul’s Cabinets and worked as a cabinet maker. Paul then branched out remodeling restaurants and bars and later building decks. In 1970, Paul became a volunteer fireman for the Glenview Fire Department where he served for many years. Paul retired from carpentry in 1996 when his health began to decline. During his retirement Paul spent the winter months in Florida with Patricia, where he enjoyed fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, shell collecting and the warm weather.
Paul’s other passions were gardening, antiques, coin collecting and baking. At his home in Elburn he had made a “9/11 Memorial Garden” filled with flowers and memorial plaques to honor those that lost their lives in that tragic event. Every year on September 11th the Elburn Fire Department holds a service at Paul’s memorial garden. Although his health was failing, Paul would work on his garden or bake bread to give to family and friends.
Paul was a member of the Des Plaines and Elburn American Legion.
Paul is survived by his wife of 62 years; Patricia, his three children; Philip Wdowicki, Mary Garcia, and Lisa (Michael) Babusch, 3 grandchildren; Quinton Babusch, Murphy Garcia, and Benjamin Garcia, sister; Carol (Gerald) Root and aunt; Sister Agnes Marie Kovacic.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents; Bernard and Antonia (Kovacic) and three brothers; Albert, Bernard, and Donald.
The visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce Street in Elburn. The rosary will be read at 6:30 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home. A Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at St. Gall Catholic Church, Elburn, Illinois. Cremation rites will occur after the service. Burial will take place on a later date at Blackberry Township Cemetery.
