PETER H. "Pete" WOLSFELD, age 91, of Big Rock, formerly of Plano, passed away Christmas morning, December 25, 2012, and received the celestial gift of everlasting life. He was born September 5, 1921 in Naperville, IL, the son of Peter N. and Jo Hanna Thoman) Wolsfeld.Pete grew up in Naperville and attended local schools. He graduated from Naperville High School with the class of 1939. Following graduation, Pete returned to his farming roots tending livestock and tilling the fields. On January 5, 1949 he was united in marriage to Betty Jane Brown. They made their home in Plano as tenant famers for thirty-three years until they bought their own farm in 1963. In 1984 they moved to Big Rock. Pete had farming in his blood and alongside his fellow farmers, Pete became a member of the Kendall County Farm Bureau, a 15 year career as a Kendall County 4-H Leader and sometime softball coach, and 18 years of service working with Kendall County Livestock Feeder Association serving as president for a period of time. Outside of farming, Pete became the first Director of Sears School and was director of Little Rock Township as well.Pete was a member of the Plano United Methodist Church. There were few interests outside of farming but he could never deny his undying love and dedication to his beloved Chicago Cubs. Through thick or thin, win or loss, Pete was their number one fan. If the Cubs weren’t playing, Pete was known to win a few hands of Euchre played amongst friends. If you knew Pete, you knew a lot because he loved talk to anyone about almost anything, add a story or two and talk your ear off if given an opportunity. His voice is now lost to history, but his memories live on. Pete is survived by three children:Bill (Scarlett) Wolsfeld of Hinckley, Ken Wolsfeld of Big Rock and Joan Turner of Kouts, IndianaTen grandchildren;Eight great-grandchildren;One sister-in-law, Dorothy Wolsfeld; A close family friend Diane Haton and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty, one sister Marge Bohr, and two brothers: Robert and Richard Wolsfeld. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., Sunday, December 30th, at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, IL 60119. A funeral service to celebrate his faith and life will be held following a brief visitation from 9:30-10:15 a.m. at the Plano United Methodist Church, 219 N. Hale St., Plano, IL, on Monday, December 30th. Interment will follow at the Warrenville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Peter’s name to benefit St. Jude Hospitals.
