RUTH OFTEDAHL, age 90, formerly of Oak Park, IL, passed away peacefully at the West Chicago Terrace Care Center, West Chicago, IL, early Friday morning , January 9, 2004.BORN / PARENTSShe was born on December 25, 1913 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of William and Hulde (Hunt) Reiter.CHILDHOOD / EDUCATION Ruth grew up in Chicago where she graduated from public schools at the age of sixteen. For a time she worked as a floral designer for Dennisons in Chicago and also earned a degree in nursing and became a licensed beautician as well. MARRIAGEOn April 23, 1938 she was united in marriage to Vernon Oftedahl. They made their home in Oak Park, IL for a number of years until 1953 when Vernon passed away and Ruth moved to California. EMPLOYMENTShe made her home with her sister in San Jose and she became employed in the drafting department at F.M.C. corporation where she continued until retiring in the late seventies. In more recent years, she returned to Illinois to be closer to her family. SURVIVORSShe is survived by three sons, Howard, Dennis and Philip Oftedahl,six grandchildren and five great grandchildren;one sister Mimi Scherrod of California and several nieces and nephews.In addition she leaves the special legacy of one who persevered in life but also loved and was loved by many.PRECEDEDShe is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vernon and one sister, Patsy Koon.MEMORIALSMemorials in her name will benefit Alzheimer’s Research and may be mailed in care of P.O. Box 66, Elburn, IL, 60119.

SERVICESShe was a member of the Christian Science Church from the age of nineteen. Christian Science Memorial services will be held, Monday, January 12, 2004 at 1pm at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, IL . A brief visitation will precede the service from noon until 1pm..
