Sherman Reader, age 82 of St. Charles, IL, formerly of Burlington, passed into eternal life, Wednesday, April 20, 2022, surrounded by the love and prayers of his family.
Sherm graduated from East Aurora High School with the class of 1958.
Sherm met the love of his life on a blind date and as fate would have it, a love grew into 36 years of marriage. They walked down the aisle in 1985 at the log home he built by hand, and never looked back.
Sherm started as a baker but laid down his rolling pin and picked up a pipe wrench after starting a five-year apprenticeship as a plumber and pipe fitter for Pipe Fitters Local 597. He spent the next 35 years in heavy construction for R.L. Wagner and Son, before laying down his tools in retirement 1999.
Sherm loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, travelling for 20 years with Sharon in a 35-foot RV, visiting Alaska and Grand Canyon among other destinations. At home and on vacation, he was keen to take in some bird watching as well, when he wasn’t casting a line, hoping to land “the big one” in his net. His hands were made to build things, so it was not surprising that he built a two-story log home, plus many of its furnishings for a growing family. In addition, his artist’s eye helped him to carve birds which became treasured gifts for family and friends. Sherm was a great dad and husband who worked hard to provide for his family, but also to give them the kind of love that keeps a family together. His labor has now ceased and Sherm’s hard working hands have been laid to rest, but his memory lives on in the hearts of all who loved him.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sharon Reader; four children: Dean (Tammy) Reader, Pamela Callahan, John Reader, Dawn (Butch) DaMask; one stepson, John (Lynda) Narva; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Betz; many nieces, nephews and a family of friends.
He now is reunited with his parents, Harold Sr. and Marion Reader; two daughters: Linda Ann Reader and Tamara Lynn Reader; a brother, Harold Jr. and 2 sisters: Barbara Jones and Patty Reader.
Private family burial services have already been held.
