Date of Death

Saturday, October 9, 2021

Steven “Blookie” Swan, age 68, of Hinckley, formerly of Elburn, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, October 9, 2021 at his home. Gone without being able to say goodbye, he is now at rest in his Heavenly home.

He was born on August 25, 1953, in Aurora, IL, to proud and loving parents, Calvin and Alice (Carlson) Swan.

Steve grew up in Elburn and attended local schools. He graduated from Kaneland High School with the class of 1971 where he excelled in graphic arts.

Live music was close to Steve’s heart, and a favorite part of his life was spent working as a roadie with his lifelong friends in the rock band Flavor. It was during this time that Peggy Larsen took to the “main stage” of his heart. They were united in marriage on December 5,1980. They began their new life and newly blended family in Kaneville. The family eventually became complete with the addition of Ryan to older siblings Doug and Laura. They moved to Hinckley in the early 90’s and eventually Steve and Peggy went their separate ways, but their shared love for their children remained strong and true.

Steve worked for Schless Construction before moving on to Strathmore Printing in Geneva where he worked alongside his father. Later Steve became manager of the warehouse before declining health brought him into retirement.

Steve and Peggy loved to spend time at garage sales and auctions, where they found “treasure”, much of which related to rock and roll/television memorabilia and antiques yearning for restoration. Steve had an encyclopedic knowledge of his favorite bands and celebrated his fandom with countless t-shirts and records that he continually added to his collection. When Steve was growing up, he enjoyed working with his father on their sawmill and took his turn with fine woodworking and craftsmanship. His time in graphic arts, both in high school and later in the printing industry, kept his hands full of ink while he was busy typesetting. Cooking wasn’t necessarily his forte, but his time in the kitchen did put food on the table, most of which was very “edible”. Not to put too fine a point on it, eating out was a favorite amongst the rest of the family.  Steve was an “organized hoarder”, with every item labeled and stored in its correct location. There is no doubt that Steve was one of a kind and number one in the hearts of many. He will be missed dearly but always remembered fondly.

He is survived by his three children: Ryan (Natalie) Swan, Doug (Amanda) Wielert and Laura (Tom) Stach; 7 grandchildren: Emma, Trevor, and Lucy Wielert and Alexis, Samantha, Keenan and Macy Stach; former wife and dear friend, Peggy Swan; two siblings: Susan (Bill) Gates and Sandy Swan; one niece, Angie Zelensek; two nephews: Robert “Robby” Overton, Michael Overton and a family of friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Alice Swan and one sister Sharon Difazzio
