Susan K. Overley, age 69, of Elburn, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by the love and prayers of her family, on Sunday June 2, 2013. Susan was born in September of 1943. She was a "war baby" in every sense. While growing up, she and her siblings spent a lot of time with their grandparents, aunts and cousins while their father and uncles were off fighting WWII.Susan completed elementary school and high school in Troy, Ohio and graduated from Columbus Business School. Shortly thereafter, she found employment in Dayton, OH where she met her husband of 44 years, Wiley Overley. They amassed many friends around the country when career opportunities took them to homes in Ohio, Wisconsin, California and Illinois. They resided in Geneva, IL for 13 years and have called Elburn, IL home for the last 16 years.Susan began working at Geneva Dental Lab in 1988 where she was the office manager for 24 years. During that time she enjoyed building friendships with many in the dental community.Susan’s life and happiness were defined by being the ultimate mother, wife, and homemaker for her husband and children. She spent her free time doing things that made her and others happy. She had a great love of cooking, wine tasting, boating, entertaining and most recently, traveling. This included a road trip to California with her sister-in-law, Cathy, a tour of Italy, and a couple of trips to wine country in California.She and her family spent many weekends on the family boat as well as house boating in Kentucky and central Illinois.Susan retired from Geneva Dental Lab in April of 2012 to spend time with her new Grandson, Calvin. Calvin quickly became Nana’s favorite (sidelining Greg to her #2 slot). Over the past year, she enjoyed babysitting Calvin part time, working in her garden and She is survived by her loving husband Wiley J. Overley of Elburn;One son Gregory Overley of Geneva;One daughter Anne (Tom) Schaff of Batavia;Her grandson Calvin Michael Schaff. Two brothers Stephen Shanesy of Cincinnati, OH and Patrick Shanesy of Waynesville, NC;And one sister Sally Shanesy Simonis of Troy, OH.She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Scottie Shanesy.Visitation will be held Thursday June 6, 2013 from 4-8pm at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn. A funeral mass to celebrate Susan’s life will begin at 10am Friday June 7, 2013 at St. Gall Church, Elburn, with Fr. Tim Seigel celebrating. Interment will follow at Blackberry Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Susan’s name to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Center: Checks may be made to the "St. Jude Children’s Research Center" and mailed in care of the Overley Family P.O.
