TODD LAUX

Date of Birth

December 19, 1964

Date of Death

April 7, 2022

Todd Laux, age 57, of Elburn, fought the good fight and finished the race, surrounded by the love and prayers of his family, Thursday, April 7, 2022.

He was born on December 19, 1964, in St. Charles, IL, to proud and loving parents, George and Beverly Laux.

Todd grew up in Geneva and attended local schools. He graduated from Geneva High School with the class of 1983. Before he received his diploma, Todd made a name for himself on the grid iron playing as a lineman on the football team. Long regrets and many stories were told (and retold) about almost making it to the state championships.

Todd met his match when he caught Shanne Singer’s eye when each of their families got together. The friendship that began when they were young, matured and became a love as strong and true as you could ever know. They walked hand in hand down the aisle on September 22, 1990, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in St. Charles, IL. They began their new life together in St. Charles for 3 years before moving to Elburn, making a home and raising a family that would include two children before the family was complete.

Todd has been a lifelong, well known and accomplished heavy operator since the age of eighteen and was proud of being a member of Midwest Operating Engineers, Local 150. It wasn’t uncommon for people to request him specifically. He always enjoyed taking the young guys under his wing, teaching them all he knew and becoming a mentor to many.

He was an active and supportive member of the Elburn Lion’s Club and the Kaneland Sports Boosters.

In his early years, Todd grew up on the water and was proud of waterskiing barefoot. After the kids were born, Todd became the coach of all sports. If he didn’t know the sport, he learned it and even without a whistle or clipboard, Todd cheered and coached his heart out from the stands. It was so important for Todd to be “present” in his children’s lives however and whenever he could. Maybe it was because he lost his own father when he was young, but Todd never missed an opportunity to fully immerse himself in their lives. Todd loved a mean vodka gimlet and a driveway beer. There wasn’t a sport he didn’t love and no matter what he did, or played, on the field or off, he competed, especially if it was on the field on his recreational softball game. Even when it came to his vegetable garden, Todd had an intense pride in straight rows and bountiful harvests. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed spending time outdoors. Mountain climbing, sky diving and mechanical bulls were no match for Todd and his ambitious daredevil streak.  A handyman extraordinaire, there was nothing he wouldn’t attempt to fix, build or make better “Todd’s Way”. Travel also piqued his interest with countless memories made on the family cruises to destinations abroad and included the last and best with his kids to the Caribbean. Even when a cancer diagnosis should have crushed him in 2019, Todd took to it like he did anything else in life, as a challenge to defeat and overcome. Todd was a man with an incredible heart and a keen sense of humor that he shared early and often, even into his last days. Cancer may have broken his body, but it could do nothing to diminish his spirit, a spirit that lives on in his wife and children, and all those lucky enough to have known and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife Shanne; two children: Dylan Allen Laux and Cierra Lynn Laux; his mother Beverly Kuiper; one sister, Karla Kuiper; his mother and father-in-law, Lee and Linda Singer; brothers-in-law, Scott (Gina) Singer and Jim Long; a sister-in-law, Stephanie (Lincoln)  Johnson; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and a community of friends that will forever miss his laughter and love.

He is preceded in death by his father, George Laux and one sister, Dawn Long.

There will be a celebration of life at the Elburn Lions Club on Sunday, May 1st, 2022. Friends are welcome to come and share stories throughout the afternoon, from 1-5 p.m. Private family interment will follow cremation at a later date.
