Date of Death

Tuesday, May 3, 2022

Virginia Needham, age 93, of Maple Park, passed away quietly into the arms of her Savior, claiming His promise of everlasting life, Tuesday, May 3, 2022.

She was born March 11, 1929, in Holdrege, NE.

Virginia grew up in Holdrege and attended local schools.

Following her graduation from high school, she moved to St. Charles, IL, living with her sister and where she began working for a local bank.

There was something about Bill Needham that made Ginny stand up and take notice, but notice she did. They were united in marriage on June 23, 1951, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in St. Charles, IL.  They made their home in Maple Park and were blessed with two sons, Fred and Roger.

After Bill became the postmaster in Maple Park, Virginia joined him working as a clerk until her retirement. Shortly after, they sold their home and moved to Phoenix, AZ, soaking in the sun, lounging by the pool, and making friends along the way. Grief came to call when Bill passed in 2005. In 2019, Virginia moved back to Illinois to live with her son and daughter-in-law and loved to be surrounded by family.

Virginia was a faithful member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Maple Park, IL, where she sang in the choir.

Virginia and the family took many vacations together with destinations including Wisconsin and Minnesota where the fish were biting, and the stories grew with every cast. Her hands were rarely idle as she enjoyed playing the piano, painting, calligraphy, and playing cards, especially Hand And Foot, as well as Rummy.  She was also known to throw dice a time or two. Virginia held court in the kitchen making memories with every recipe and made sure no one left the table hungry.

She will be greatly missed by her two sons: Fred (Melody) Needham and Roger (Terry) Needham; 5 grandchildren:  Chad Needham, Mark (Erin) Needham, Dustin Needham, Corey Marshall, and Cale (Dorrie) Marshall; two great-grandsons: Jonathan Needham and Ryan Needham; two great-granddaughters: Morgan Needham and Aliyah Needham; one brother, Robert Luther; many nieces, nephews and a family of friends.

She is reunited with her parents, her husband Bill, and several brothers and sisters, who preceded her in death.
