WALTER "WALLY" PHILLIPS, Jr., age 69, of St. Charles, IL, passed away unexpectedly at home, January 26, 2014. He was born February 10, 1944, in Aurora, IL, the son of Walter Sr. and Marie (Heyob) Phillips. Wally grew up in Elburn and attended local schools. He graduated from Kaneland High School with the class of 1962 and continued his education at Aurora College for a time. Wally and Joyce E. Warren had a whirlwind courtship that brought them to the altar on October 14, 1966 at St. Gall Catholic Church. They began their new life together in Elburn for a time where they welcomed home a daughter Janice. They moved to Lily Lake and were blessed with a son, Michael, who made their family complete. They eventually settled in St. Charles for the next 39 years. Wally worked for St. Charles Kitchens as a draftsman for several years before finding work with Spaulding Composites in DeKalb, IL. He retired in 1998. Wally was a past member of St. Gall Catholic Church in Elburn.As a young adult, Wally helped his uncle on his dairy farm and mow lawns. Wally fell for his favorite pastime hook, line and sinker. An avid fisherman, Wally was a regular at Blue Lake Resort in Minocqua, WI as well as Lake Delavan in Lake Geneva. When he wasn’t on the lake, he was a talker and loved to get and pass on the latest information with friends and neighbors. If you needed help with anything, you couldn’t find a better or more loyal friend than Wally.He is survived by his two children:Janice (Dale) Diehl of Maple Park, IL and Michael (Christy) Phillips of Elburn, IL;Four grandchildren:Gregory (Caitlin Singer) Diehl, Matthew Diehl, Jaclyn (Joshua) Mancilla and their son, Andrew and Christopher Phillips; Four siblings:Rose Marie Newcomb, Laura Sheehan, Gerald (Judy) Phillips and Raymond (Susan) Phillips;Many nieces, nephews, cousins and a countryside of friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Marie Phillips. Visitation will be from 5:30-7p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 7:30 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2014, at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, IL 60119.
