Date of Death

Jun 23,2019

William “Bill” Amery, age 84, of Maple Park, IL, claimed the promise of his Savior, Sunday, June 23, 2019 after a long battle with declining health and dementia.
He was born June 6, 1935, in St. Charles, IL, to proud parents, Walter and Amanda (King) Amery.
Bill grew up in St. Charles and attended St. Patrick Catholic Schools. Before he graduated high school, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy and fought in the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge, Bill returned to St. Charles.
He was united in marriage to Carol Meyerhofer but suffered a tragic loss when within a year, she was killed in an accident. Fate intervened when he happened to meet Betty Tilley during his over 45 years at DuKane Corporation. They met at a bowling alley but it was Bill who was bowled over, leading to a six month whirlwind courtship that ended with a walk down the aisle. They were married on August 31, 1968 and settled in Maple Park. They were blessed with two children, John and Stephanie, and spent the rest of their years together, making memories to last a lifetime.
He retired as a service department supervisor from DuKane in 2004 and spent countless hours surveying his kingdom from his lawn mower.
He was a past member of St. Gall Catholic Church.
Bill was a very private person and tended to focus his attention and love on those closest to him. He was loving father, and dedicated husband whose quiet strength spoke volumes and moved mountains. Mother Nature was a constant companion, and he enjoyed watching birds as they took refuge in his back yard. (The squirrels who devastated the seed he left were another matter entirely). Bill enjoyed collecting coins alongside his father, and delved into stamp collecting as well. For many years, Bill and Betty, with their children and few nieces and nephews to boot, traveled twice a year to Betty’s family, staying a week each time.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Betty Amery; two children: John Amery and Stephanie (Jim) Baston; two grandchildren: Tyler James Baston and Laurel Bailey Amery; one brother, Robert (Karen) Amery; three nieces: Gail, Christine and Michelle along with a family of friends he held dear.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Amanda Amery; one daughter-in-law, Jennifer Amery; a granddaughter, Lindsay Amery.
