ANN R. HARMON, age 90, of Elburn, passed away August 30, 2013 at Pine Acres Rehab and Living Center where she had made her home in recent years. Ann was born January 16, 1923, in Spring Valley, IL, the daughter of James and Rose (Soeder) Lynch.Ann grew up in areas surrounding Peru, IL, and attended local schools. She graduated from LaSalle-Peru High School.After working locally for a time, Ann enlisted in Women’s Army Corp in September 16, 1944. She served stateside taking care of her fellow wounded soldiers throughout the country. After she was honorably discharged in October 14, 1946, she attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing and graduated with the class of 1950. Ann was united in marriage to Thomas Leroy "Red" Harmon on May 19, 1951. They first lived in rural Utica before moving to Elburn in 1955. In November of 1998, sadness struck when Red passed away but Ann continued to live and make memories in their Elburn home. In the ensuing years, as Ann’s healthcare needs changed, she lived in several locations. Ann was a faithful member of St. Gall Catholic Church and it’s Altar and Rosary Society. She and Red were also members of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Aurora. Ann’s true gift was the caring for others. Whether they were injured soldiers, scraped knees on grandchildren or a broken heart, no one cared for you like Ann. Ann’s hands were rarely idle and when not caring for others, she loved to sew. Ann also loved to read anything she could get her hands on. She was hearty traveler making trips with Red to many destinations throughout the Caribbean, the Middle East and Africa. Her favorite times were those spent reading to her children and grandchildren and being surrounded by friends and family. She is survived by two children:Jim (Sahar) Harmon of Cairo, Egypt and Leanne (Larry) Snyder of Maple Park, IL;Three grandchildren:Keith Snyder, Lisa Harmon and Elizabeth Harmon;Three siblings:James Lynch,Lois Humpage and William Lynch;Several nieces, nephews and community of friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Kenneth Lynch Visitation will be from 10-11a.m., with a mass to follow at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 7, 2013, at St. Gall Catholic Church , 120 W. Shannon, Elburn. Fr. Tim Seigel, pastor of the church, will officiate with interment to follow at St. Gall Cemetery. A memorial has been established in her name.
