Evelyn Turk Yagen, age 90, of Virgil, passed away only one day after her goal of ninety years was achieved. She peacefully left this earthly world, while surrounded by the love and prayers of her family, Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at The Grand Victorian of Sycamore, an assisted living facility, where she had recently made her home. BORN: She was born December 22, 1924, in Virgil, IL, the daughter of Frank and Barbara (Hardt) Turk. EARLY YEARS:Evelyn attended local schools in Maple Park, where she lived most of her life. MARRIAGEShe was united in marriage to John "Bud" "Sully" Yagen on September 22, 1956 at St. Mary’s of Maple Park. OCCUPATIONPrior to her marriage, Evelyn was employed in the office of the Elgin Watch Factory. Before her retirement, she was secretary at the Maple Park Elementary School for eighteen years. Evelyn was a clerk in the Virgil Post Office and was Treasurer of the Village of Virgil when it incorporated in 1990. MEMBERSHIPSEvelyn was a long time faithful member of S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Virgil. LIFE NOTES: The joys in her life were the vacations she and Sully took in the fall to the New England States as well as their many trips to Wisconsin for fishing, not to mention all the fun times spent with dear friends. Evelyn also had so many good times shopping and having lunch with her nieces. She also enjoyed attending sporting events and playing in several local card clubs. Evelyn always kept up on current events by reading the local newspapers, but indulged herself in novels as well. Cards and letters that came in the mail made each day special and Evelyn treasured each and every one. . SURVIVORS: She is survived by her brother Joseph Turk:Sisters-in-law Mary Anne Schramer and Guyla Yagen;Over fifty nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews as well as a close circle of friends. PRECEDED:She was preceded in death by her parents;Her husband and their two still born sons;Two sisters: Dolores "Sis" Turk and Rosalie (Jerry) Berkes;Two brothers, Peter and Francis Turk;Sisters-in-law, Marge Turk and Dolores Hart Turk;Her nephew Thomas Berkes and the many beloved Yagen in-laws whom she held dear. VISITATION / FUNERAL Visitation will be from 9:30-10:45 a.m., with a mass to follow at 11 a.m., Friday, December 26, 2014, at S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 5N939 Meredith Rd., Virgil, IL. Fr. Perfecto Vasquez, pastor of the church, will officiate with interment to follow at S.S. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Virgil. MEMORIAL In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Evelyn’s name. Berry and her church family for their loving care and many heartfelt prayers.
